I wanted to get back to the basics again. So, you see we have some upcoming videos about How to shoot from the standing, kneeling, or prone positions. Everyone knows how to do it, right? Yeah, kinda like everyone already knows how to shoot a pistol, but we still suck and need to train more.
So, this week we are going to talk about shooting while standing. Again, we teach combat shooting; so you wont see any Olympic crap here. I'm not bashing the kids in the games, but in combat I need you able to shoot accurate, accurate & fast, and accurate & fast while moving. That requires practice, but it doesn't hurt to have a few pointers from the pros either. I hope you enjoy the video.
Hey, and this week's sponsor... I REALLY do LOVE these steel targets from Shooting Targets USA, so I hit them up for a promo code... Use code TR15 and it will save you 15%

Accurate while standing is every shooter’s nemesis. And, it prevents most US Service Rifle Competitors from ever winning the prestigious US Distinguished Rifleman Badge. I was such a poor shooter until I got the truth on the matter from a USAMU Service Rifle Section Competitor. The advice given was a double blind dry/live fire exercise for a total of 40 trigger pulls in 50 minutes daily until results materialized. This exercise schedule increased my stamina, refined my Zero, and most importantly, it helped me to learn the optimal bone support for muscular relaxation and sensitivity for natural point of aim. It’s that great sensitivity for NPA which finally helped me to shoot where aimed when properly following through on the shot. Now, this practice may not seem relevant to combat but it is because it identifies all of the qualities that are important to good shooting from the standing position whether any are applicable to combat. In other words, all shooters must first master basic marksmanship before attempting to go for success in other contests. My perspective on this is mostly as a CMP-USAMU Military Rifle Instructor assisting the USAMU deliver SDM Training and as a US Distinguished Rifleman.

@@kazimierzspaczynski7401I think this is yet another reason to setup and zero your rifle the way you expect to shoot it. If I shoot off the bench, my eye is closer to the scope than it is when I shoot standing or kneeling. I had noticed that but hadn’t gotten all the way to this conclusion. I have some rifles that will only be shot off the bench. I have others (lever actions in particular) that will never see the bench again after I zero them. Those need to be setup and zeroed while I’m standing.

I believe the chicken wing came from the old M1/M14 days with the stocks being so different from the AR grip , you could keep the butt plate in the shoulder pocket during recoil. Still getting your elbow shot is definitely to be avoided.
@jimf1964
@jimf1964 2 дня назад
Facing the target also helps to avoid a double lung shot. Also, blind shouldering a gun, or mounting a pistol, over and over again (with a positively cleared firearm) is free, and halos with speed so much. Then go to the range and practice like he says.

Cool technique. All my 57 years I’ve mainly been into hunting rifles, but with the current state of the country I’ve been shooting my AR’s more and learning more tactical type maneuvers. The stance and stock length for LPVO is something I’m going to try out. I’ve got a couple red dots and a couple LPVO and some with more magnification for longer range accuracy. LPVO is probably my go to though, outside the weight I feel like I can do most everything I think might come into play.

It's so useful to understand how the gadgets change, but the techniques haven't much -- not in a long time. 90 percent of this video was in the curriculum at the HK ITD in 1988, and it's still freakishly important to modern close-quarter gunfighting. The 22nd SAS really were the state of that art back then, and I can't tell you how important these fundamentals still are. You kids out there -- you listen to Karl, okay? He isn't quite as old, wise or pretty as me, but he's working on it. :-) (13-year HK sub-gun instructor here - '89-'02, and I hope you can hear this message over the creaking of my arthritic joints.)

Call me old fashioned but I was taught by the men that raised me, all WWII vets, to have your sling adjusted so that you can wrap it around your support arm to add tension to the rifle to better steady it for accurate fire especially in non prone positions.

I actually cover using the sling for support in the second video in this series: Kneeling. It goes live soon. Standing is the only place i dropped points on rifle qual. At distance, your body will sway in something like a slow figure 8. You just have to relax when off target, and squeeze when on it. Distance shooting is a lot different stance than up close. You have to lock your elbow into your ribcage for stability. Had the old habit of cradling the slip ring on the A2. Tried the same thing qualifying on the mini 14. That charging handle stings when it slaps the top of your index finger.

Having the elbow down behind cover makes sense but in the open it doesn’t matter because you aim center mass and if the arm is hit it’s just a bad shot. It can get it up or down. But down close to your body brings it closer to center mass .the arm up is a smaller target and you don’t aim for the arm.

Top of front plate should be roughly in line with the two bony protrusions at the lowest point (bottom of the v) of your clavicle (collarbone). This proper plate position forces the buttstock slightly outboard, but mainly above, the front plate. THIS is the primary reason behind Karl mentioning its not in the "traditional deep shoulder pocket... rather above" along with the more natural, situationaly aware, heads-up position it enables. Inboard vs outboard vs right on the plate carrier shoulder strap is more personal preference, though arguably inboard (where Karl mentions) allows for more natural head alignment AND makes a nice anchor for the buttstock preventing outboard slip (with the shoulder strap preventing that slip). Then everything is the same with plates, chest rig, or just a t shirt (as Karl depicts).

We, rather than, train for real life… think crowded parking lots, in vehicles/ boats/ planes, or in buildings. There can be people 360 degrees around you. Can you safely load a pistol in the backseat of a car? Sure, just don’t “flag” the guy sitting in the front seat. Again, muzzle awareness. That is the MOST important rule of firearm safety. Im nat saying you are wrong for pointing at the berm. However, I want you to know “why” you are pointing at the berm… just like me, you are pointing in a safe direction. Thanks for watching, TR

Isn't it funny how when someone says "once a Marine always a Marine". But a Green Beret afterwards is a former Green Beret. ??? 🤔

I think that's because green berets eat snakes instead of crayons

Green Beret is army. They don’t have that moto or sentiment. They merely “be all they can be” and then some. They ain’t cocky about it like marines. Marines have had it drilled into em from day one that they’re the cream of the crop, superior than all others in the military machine. It just ain’t so. Without the other branches, Army, Navy, Air Force…..Marines would be land locked or dead. Before you say it ….Marines are their own Branch now but get paid out of the Naval Budget.
