What did you make of Zhang's win vs Joyce? 🤔👇

Richie is always a voice worth listening to, he summed up Joyce’s performance perfectly. Joe stood in front of Zhang with his guard wide open, and made no attempt to change his tactics, even after getting constantly battered with that straight left hand from the opening round. And yet we know Joe can fight more intelligently than that, as he did against Dubois. Richie is not the first person I’ve heard questioning Joyce’s preparation and tactics for this fight, and I think his team have some serious questions to answer. If it wasn’t for the Dubois fight, I’d say they’ve gotten lazy and allowed Joe to rely on just his solid chin and battering-ram tactics for too long.

Coming in to the terminator tells you everything you need to know about Joyce's mindset... he's let people gas him up and he's believed it... they thought they could take anything Zhang could give and just walk through him... nope... this is the heavyweight division and you can't take liberties with genuine power punchers

@@vincentvangogh8092 I think you can't know that until they're in with each other. Looking forward to the iD Review Show on Monday. Not Joyce's night, for sure. Did he get carried away with all the positive press about him recently and lose some focus? Weight an issue? Stung and surprised by Zhang's power early on? The corner chat seemed interesting: The great Salas not saying too much [not sure if that's normal]. I could hear more from the equally great Jimmy Tibbs. Lots of questions to cover!

If Woodhall is baffled then I’m baffled by his bafflement. Some of us saw this coming a long time ago. In fact I’m baffled that it hadn’t happened before. As a matter of fact, I have expected this to happen in every fight that JJ has ever gone into barring the Olympics final, where I thought he was robbed. A man who has a defence based on blocking punches with his face is liable to get knocked out at some point. Especially, if he is stupid enough to fight a 20 st banger and decide to inexplicably lose weight for the fight. Some would say he was asking for it. If I were JJ I’d sack my manager and trainer forthwith. No manager worth their salt would make a fight with a banger, knowing his fighter has zero defence and no trainer worth their salt would come in light against a 20 st banger. It’s a clown show all round.

After the weigh in Joyce himself said he was very surprised his weight was so low, and looked mystified. How on earth could that have happened? Had they been using broken scales at his gym? Not weighing him at all? It speaks of a lackadaisical attitude at the gym and everyone there not taking the Zhang fight seriously.
@Jj-ty7qh
@Jj-ty7qh Год назад
@Randy marsh you make some excellent points friend. However, I think the answer to your question is up to now Joyce has never done any actual boxing such as using tactics, such as you describe. Heck, he never even found the need for evading punches before. Which is the most basic thing anyone should do Ina boxing ring. The weight loss is probably up there with blocking punches with your face. Which is what Joyce does.

@NCFiteFan Год назад
This is also what I believe happened. I feel that Joyce felt this guys' power in the 1st, was stunned in the 2nd and became very tentative. His best option was to fight his normal, high volume fight and I say that because on the occasions that Joe was getting off his punches in this fight, Zhang wasn't doing anything. But when Joe lumbered around not doing anything, Zhang picked his shots well and was able to fight at a nice and comfortable pace for himself. Normally, Joe will take some big shots early, and he might even lose a round or 2, but he's getting his own punches in and gradually wearing his opponents down as the fight progresses.

I suspect that Joe Joyce will be able to make the adjustments required to beat Zhang in a rematch, though I personally would prefer to see him first fight another southpaw, such as Otto Wallin, who does not punch as hard as Zhang, is lighter at around 16st 12lbs with a slightly shorter reach, and seems to have an artificially high ranking based solely on his losing fight with Tyson Fury. Adjustments needed (I think) by Joyce for Zhang (but for his practice bout with Wallin also) will be: (i) Coming in at what looks to be his more natural weight of around 19st 6lbs; (ii) Circling (fast!) to his left away from Zhang’s straight left; (iii) Keeping his lead left foot at all times TO THE LEFT of Zhang’s lead right foot; (iv) Trying to improve his defence by keeping his chin tucked down more, hands up for protection, moving his head more, and being more aware of Zhang’s fast but quite wide right hook; (v) Practising ad nauseum his own straight right to the head (more specifically Zhang’s left eye!) followed by a hard left to the body; (vi) Frequently targeting Zhang’s arms at just below shoulder level (but not so as to leave himself open to Zhang’s left counter) and his right bicep (when Zhang extends his right arm to encourage movement to the right by Joyce into Zhang’s straight left! (vii) Remembering his rugby scrummaging skills with a view to forcing Zhang to move backwards; But then, what do I know? Corrections from someone, who actually coaches and knows what they are talking about, welcomed! What do you think, Richie?

Instead, he continued to keep his head as still as possible so that Zhang could keep on hitting him again and again. If he doesn’t learn to MOVE HIS HEAD he’s finished at this level. It’s a fundamental thing in boxing. Hit but DONT GET HIT. Also Joyce never landed a big shot on Zhang the whole fight.

British media will hype you to your downfall.....Instead of to stay humble and work on himself, he's there calling for Anthony Joshua.....He got flattened like the own goal Maguire always give us

He wasn't going to walk Zhang down he's massive Joyce looked noticeably smaller in the ring .

Regardless of Joyces bone density and not getting dropped, getting hit over and over by a big 18st dude is going to mess your face right up all the muscle and blood vessels in the face get inflammation. The defense was porous I think the head being on center line constantly isn't ideal against a southpaw either.

Nah Joshua fights smarter..Joshua will beat Zhang on decision running all night. Usyk is a much better and faster southpaw than zhang....Joyce is the most robotic fighter I have seen, he just uses his face as defense.

That's how Joyce always fights, he only knows one way. He's just never been in with anyone before who hits so hard.

Why are people shocked by Joyce's performance. Joe has always led with his face in constant contact with his opponents fist? All people have to do is to examine his previous fights to see 👀. Joyce is big, strong with great stamina but very little balance and technique.

Ali once called George Foreman the mummy, Joe Joyce last night was that mummy, terrible, add, Foreman would have levelled the two of those in that ring last night.

Questions raised from this fight... Was the Parker performance misleading and more to do with Parker's decline? Does Joyce's style of walking opponents down only work against smaller opponents? Are we just underestimating Zhang and Joyce just got beat by a better fighter?

I think Joyce can beat Zhang, but on the night he was awful. He seemed even slower than normal and wasn't doing the right things against a southpaw. I think his team have a lot to answer for, because he just didn't seem prepared for Zhang at all.

@@Stevesixty7 I'm not so sure. He clearly was in shape, I just think his style of walking down smaller opponents isn't effective on similar size or larger opponents.

@@bigjim5423 He was fighting a powerful southpaw, his approach was all wrong. I doubt he'll make that mistake again.
