Duke of Windsor (formerly King Edward VIII), meets Adolf Hitler at his Obersalzberg retreat against the advice of the British Government. The Duke's visit received much publicity from the German Press, especially after the Duke gave full Nazi salute. Some historians believe that had Edward not abdicated, Anglo-German relations would have improved greatly, so much so as to avoid the War between the two countries.
