Although some racists are barking and wants to keep him as their "forever president", majority of liberal Sinhalese Buddhists backed HE President Maitreepala Sirisena. 85% of his votes came from Buddhists who wanted to end the corruption and begin equality and social justice. Tamils and Muslims joined the battle and voted a Sinhalese Buddhist leader as they too wanted a country with equal opportunities and social justice. Former president's defeat is a blow to racism and victory to democracy.
If the following is genuine, it is good for Sri Lanka. 1) Sirisena welcomes dissidents home. Sri Lankans overseas will be given dual citizenship. Journalists are invited to be critical. 2) If James Packer's $496 million casino and hotel plan is cancelled, it is good for Sri Lankans. You have a rich culture. When you rely on the tourism industry, your artforms will be used to merely entertain tourists. Their spiritual and cultural value will be lost. Your women will turn into prostitutes and men into lady boys. Your educated folk will be sucked into gambling. Better for Sri Lanka to come forward through education like Singapore. Not through entertainment and letting foreigners strengthen the economy like Thailand. Instead of you running ayurvedic centres or Buddhist monasteries, it will be run by foreigners that have no lineage or true understanding of Theravada Buddhism. 3) Loosening ties with China is good. China is secretly taking over countries. SL ties with India needs to be stronger. SL and India are culturally very similar. Pilgrimage sites are sprinkled between two countries. To understand each other's ancient histories, a good relationship with India is needed. SL is nothing more than a state of India in reality (culturally speaking). The only difference is that Sri Lankans have a higher literacy rate and are clean. More so related to Malayalam peoples of India. India's uncleanliness is also a result of their systems being uprooted during British occupation. India ruled Afghanistan, India, SL, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Burma, Pakistan, Laos and Islands in between back in the day. 4) Allowing a probe into Rajapaksa regime's war crimes.
