Immediately across Beamer Rd from the South Bend subdivision is the San Jacinto College South, where the repository for all the Brio Toxic Waste site documents are. Next door to that is Memorial Herman Southeast Hospital. When we get torrential rains, like we have had during Hurricane Harvey and the torrential rains that caused flooding on Saturday, 18 December 2021, it makes me wonder how much chemicals have flooded into the groundwater and land at San Jac College South and Memorial Herman Southeast. Brio is STILL a toxic waste dump and that is why the land where the original South Bend subdivision was continues to be fenced & locked off. I would love to see KHOU 11 investigate this. Particularly after all the dirt was moved into the flood plain on the old South Bend subdivision and they are now moving this dirt somewhere else to contaminate.
Fenced off because the federal gubment bought out the land. Guess they are going to cover it up and sit on it on behalf of their corporate overlords (BlackRock) hoping enough time passes so everyone forgets. Eventually it will become a park for families.
Oh God I so remember all of this when it was happening. I had friends at Clear Creek HS who lived in this neighborhood. So sad for all of those who have suffered or lost their lives
I lived in that neighborhood move there 1985 with my mother and father I was 2 years old and I have learning disabilities reproductive issues social issues and I'm the healthiest child that I can recall many children died and the ones that lived have severe disabilities. I got a settlement for it but it definitely doesn't make up for what they did to me
I am so sorry 😞 I remember all this very well. I was just telling my husband about it which made me find this video. I was in Sagemont and at CCHS. I hate hearing what all you and your neighbors have had to live with all of these years.
An old friend of mine used to live in the neighborhood that is now the Brio site. Her mom and dad have already passed, her mom had constant neurological issues and ended up with a brain tumor and her dad also had health issues. My friend had serious problems with her reproductive organs and was never able to have children
We lived not far from there in Sage Meadows from 1979-1989. My father had an in ground garden and developed Parkinson’s Disease which he subsequently died from at age 59! I’m convinced his Parkinson’s was a result of the Brio Site.
My mom used too take me to the doctor to get shots in all the sores i had on my back an arm's 16 years i played there i am 60 years old now and i still get them this day and now i know why
If I was now living in a new home ontop of the old homes that were denolished..id get a auger and dig down and get samples and have them tested by a trusted lab. Especially if I had kids. I can't believe a builder decided to build neighborhoods there. That is insane.
New homes on the easement of where the old neighborhood was, they just reforested the neighborhood land and build new homes where the old forest was. Kinda funny in a sick way if you look on the historical map.
I played out there for 8 years everybody called in the Honda hills cuz the big hills we can jump off of on a motorcycle I got sores and everything all over me and you used to go to the doctor and get shots and every one of them I still get sores to come up on me alarm 62 years old we played out there before the neighborhood was even built
Holy crap. I knew Jeff and most of the family. I was friends w/his big Brother Ben. Didnt know he passed. He was a good guy. Good at soccer. Well liked. Wouldn't harm a fly. RIP Jeff. Condolences to the Steinsholts.
