Growing up in the 80s it was pics of her pregnant. It was everywhere she was pregnant. Janet won't admit it but the reason she was big around Control because she had given Birth.

Everybody remembers when Janet’s Control Album was out. She had gained quite a bit of weight. Idk if this was right before or after she had married James, or when Bobby Brown came into the picture, but Bobby was allegedly hanging with Janet when she was engaged to James. That timeline makes no sense, because Control dropped in 1985. Bobby left N.E. around that time but wound up cutting his solo album. Janet would have to have been pregnant before that if the pregnancy accounted for the weight gain. Bobby Brown released his debut solo album, “King of Stage” in late 1985, and he had supposedly been hanging with Janet around that time. The only other explanation is that James got her pregnant right before they separated and were headed for divorce, and Janet kept it a secret. Bobby was well out of the picture, and Janet and James were married but headed for divorce. That would make sense, because by then Janet and her family knew Kane’s was an addict and likely knew about his family’s dysfunction…wanting to protect their daughter from that, she kept it a secret. I can’t say I blame Janet. The DeBarges had a lot of bad stuff going on. Bunny thinks it was about Janet’s career. I would suspect that it was about not wanting to share a child with the DeBarge family with all they had going on. The most motherly thing a mother can do is protect her child from harm.

Maybe Janet had a miscarriage… The timeline is extremely important here… by late 1985 particularly August of 1985, Janet had already divorced James DeBarge and was in the production stages of the Control Album 💿… The first single “What Have You Done for Me Lately” was released in Feb. of 1986. Several sources say the marriage was annulled after 3 months of marriage and some say a full year. Janet graduated high school from the Valley Professional School in 1984 could not legally get married until after May 16, 1984 when she turned 18. So she didn’t marry James DeBarge until September of 1984 according to court documents and was divorced definitely by the time the summer of 1985 as she her last appearance on Fame was aired in May of 1985. You can look at old clips on RU-vid and noticed weight gain with Janet when started on Fame as Cleo Hewitt to her very last episode…. at the time of taping, she was definitely married to James DeBarge or feeling the stress from it then…. Janet had always denied having a child and has been open about her weight and we know she gains when during stressful periods of her life. I don’t think she had a kid, I think she could of had a miscarriage if anything in 1985. Just my speculation.

janet said several times(well... twice) that even if she did have a secret child the last thing she would do is keep them from their father. and apparently Katharine didn't know about a secret child either because most of janet's adult life she harassed her with the infamous "When" question. the rumor is so old and stupid (and never seems to stay consistent) she probably don't even care anymore.

I've always loved the Jacksons and have heard the rumors since I was a kid. I thought that Janet looked pregnant in a few videos from the Control Album. Especially, in the "When I Think Of You" video. You can see her round belly.
