Hello, I just started getting my social security check it about 1,800 I am 65 years old . My X husband of 26 years is going to start receiving his social security next month he will be 67. He will be receiving over 2,500 per month. Can I claim Spousal Benefit’s??? If so where do I begin?? Is there a form or do I have to go to the SS office. Not sure if I am even eligible for some of his social Security. What is the criteria? Please Help! Very confused. Thank you !

Yes, you just have to limit the amount of work you do.

Great information Dr. Weir..I am 66 and was married for 20 years and divorced in 2008. I took an early retirement and at 62. My ex is 60 years old, still working and not collecting social security. can I apply for spousal benefits on her social security? Thanx

I am 60. I was married 17 years to a surgeon. I remarried in 2016. Can I apply to collect 1/2 my ez-husband’s SS at age 62? I was planning on taking my SS at FRA.

How do I find out exactly what my Ex-Husband's benefits are? When I first signed up for SS @ 62 yrs old, I knew I'd take a Reduction in my monthly benefits due to the Early start. Problem is, when i asked about Divorced Spousal Benefits, all they'd tell me is: his benefit wasnt Double mine!! How could this be sunce he Worked good paying jobs Years LONGER than I did??!! I get less than 900$ per month & while I try my best to manage living off that pittance, it isn't always easy!!

Yes same here. I would like to know this information without a lot of phone calls and getting zero information. I too called SS office got the same answer.
