Sad, I was stationed there from 1978 to 1981, first with Delta Co 26th Signal, then Bravo Co 44th Signal Bn. It's a shame to see it in such bad shape. Lots of good memories there.
I really wished this video had audio. It was a look back in time and it has been over 30 years so trying to visually look and recognize what is what without audio was...I will keep checking out this video to get my bearings but I am thankful for you going back to Wharton Barracks and capturing my first duty station was a treasure. I ETS Germany in 06/1991 and two years later Wharton Barracks was shell and the ghost of all its soldiers still roam every inch of our home away from home. Thank you for your service and for making the trip we all could not ever do it can today!
Ken lane, this was a year or two after we left the post to the Germans. The only buildings left of our beloved Wharton barracks is the 26th signal building and the post chapel. The 26th sig building houses teachers association, police, and another branch of Heilbronn gov. The chapel is still a chapel but don’t remember what it is now. You can google and there are videos of what it looks like now. Or you can go to the 237th page and there is a retired soldier that has videos of the post and Heilbronn as it is now as well. It’s sad theyve changed housing some, the school doesnt look like it did when we left in 86. Loved Heilbronn and Wharton barracks it was my home for 2 1/2 years.
My dad was stationed at Wharton. barrack from 71 til 74. I remember the bowling alley also. Wharton Barracks is not the same. I do remember the good times.
Just got back from there a few weeks ago. I have a few pictures of me in front of Charlie company building. Just those 3 buildings are all that is left and are occupied by German Police. My wife took some pics of me in front of Charlie company and the window where Top threw me my stripes out his window. lol. I was there in the 70's. Had a 72 Dodge Demon and would do power slides in the quadrangle. The old snack bar and theater is in this film right at the end. Also the same building where CMD SGT major and Demario had their offices.
Building 22 was shop office for 22nd Maintenance company. (11:46) and Com-El - my squad - was right across the way. (11:50). Building 14 was Service and Recovery for 22nd Mt. Co. (12:29) Thank you for the video!
Loved this place! Charlie Rock 26 Sig Bn from 1989 to 1991 (with a short mini-tour in the Middle East). I used to pull gate guard duty at the main gate shed. Wow, I was 19 back the.
A member of the 26th Signal Battalion, Co.HHC and assigned to headquarters personnel 1965-1967. Our 3 barracks still stand along with the Chapel. Starting at 16:30 the camera shows one end of the PX, then pans to the street between the rear of the 26th Signal Headquarters building on right and the PX Snack bar, Movie theater, PX on the left. Then, turning right shows the parade field with EM Club with Mess Hall behind it. The EM Club was either torn down or remodeled as the entrance was on the other end of the building in mid-1960's.
At the 4:00 time spot is the garage I welded on Army trucks in 1987 44B Metal Worker. Thats are shop barracks in the Background,my room was in the 3rd floor left side Service and Recovery ast 22nd Maint. or Double Deuce.Bars on window and door building is the old Bank,With the ATM to the left. This base was great ,Movie theater,Class 6(booze),Snack bar,Rec. center,Med clinic,Gym w/sauna,NCO club w/slot machines,Great Duty

1989-1990 26th Signal Battalion. 7th Corps.~🎉 Keep in mind in our mission statement, we were there as "peacekeepers" during rebuilding processes kept secret. Our companies were forerunner communications experts. For infantry in neighboring installment facilities.
