This is by far the best explanation on hip rotation. Most people do it wrong as explained by Surina. Harry, please have her back to demonstrate more instructional content!

Wonderful teacher, and a sweet lady, lucky to have her around! Harry, you are wonderful as well, even though you know a lot about tennis and you are a master of its equipment, your openness to learn more and progress deserves a big appreciation. Thanks for sharing a, it is super lovely!

No doubt, a great teacher. Thanks for sharing. I see players who are used to "stepping in" on shots truly struggle with using angular momentum. They think they are doing something wrong because they hit "off the back foot ".

Old Dogs New Tricks ... Why wasn't I taught this when I started playing tennis. Maybe tennis instructors didn't know this stuff back in 1980... Like Surina says in those days we didn't hit like this and we didn't move like this. Players like Harry (and myself) instinctly revert back to what we know and what we were taught. But it's nice to watch (and try!) this anyway.

Great details. Surina please explain how to keep the use of left arm in term of measuring the incoming ball and balancing. I wonder how jkovic and alcatraz keep their left arm staying. When I start swinging my left arm just somehow drop , maybe it want clear out of the way for the swing. Thank you

I like watching these and respect Surina and like her shop, ( wish we had one in the east coast) but I am not following the instruction on the leg kick on the forehand. I am sure she was showing the extreme look, but maybe next time when she gives a lesson on a one handed backhand she can circle back to the forehand kick. Thanks and enjoyed the vide and I agree with many Surina runs a nice shop and I am sure she is a great Pro and teacher.

@@calvinfong8888 yup understood just assumed she gave a lesson on forehand she would do one on backhand and maybe show difference in the forehand kick vs backhand. Tennis Spin videos are great and nice to see other shops.

Want to clarify my previous comment. I meant role of left arm and how can it stay up and catch the racquet. Also how much rotation of the upper body and when. Thank you

Helpful forehand explanation. One thing: Sarina's right foot pivots 90 degrees on her open stance forehand demonstrations. Your foot didn't pivot, which makes it difficult to gain access to hip power.

Good stuff🙂 Please do the same kind of video with two handed backhand. It is much more difficult to do the "load" position when two hands are busy with a racquet. Then the forces on the left knee (in case of right handers) are greater on THBH than in case of loading position on the forehand side like shown in this video. In my opinion, on THBH you have to rely on unit turn and body weight transfer forward much more (if it is situation possible) than on "loading leg" position only and the "forehand left leg kick" is replaced by the "backhand right leg step forward" instead. It would be nice to confront what I just wrote with your knowledge as a pro. Regards🙂

U can use the same concept she described front footed, back footed, or both feet which is ideal in my mind. And if you dont keep the balance thru the entire shot u wont get the benefit of your legs and shoulder rotation

So practically a lot of techniques in sports require a lot of ass into it. A very underrated part of the body that should be mentioned more when it comes to strength n conditioning.

I don't share his idea. The hips as part of our body as also our legs will position or anchor our body to the ground in order for the arm to hit the ball. If a person isn't properly grounded before hitting then destabilizing occurs and ball gets hit wrongfully. BUT, the arm skill at hitting is CRUCIAL along to the wrist movement after arm swings. The hip thing was just hyped by her. IF jumping off the ground when hitting or twisting the body in the air then the hips will provide that body spin, the difference lies here.
