i think he is talking about when you change it at the start in the settings you do still get private investment but you can chose what to build which makes it more efficient also the private construction bug is still a thing which makes turning on private construction in settings even worse@@cadenibz

The other thing it does, which may or may not be what you want, is nuke the power of the Devout interest group. Only people of your primary religion will ever support the Devout IG, so all pops that previously supported the Devout but were still Mahayana after clicking the button will recalculate their IG support. The biggest impact is that Mahayana Clergymen shift to supporting Rural Folk (and to a lesser extent, Landowners), as well as Intelligentsia if they're working in Urban Centers, Govt Admin or Art Colleges. For this reason, it might be a decent idea to keep around the Clergy-only production methods around, because Clerks tend to have less political clout than Clergymen and will support Petite Bourgeoisie more than they will the Intelligentsia. Another reason I just now discovered is that Clergymen have better baseline Education Access than Clerks, so they will grow their pop's Literacy rate faster than Clerk pops.

also have to look at the opportunity cost of building the resource. Both a Ranch and a Plantation cost 200 construction. So they are equal there. For 200 construction a cotton plantation gives you 40 fabric, a Ranch will give you 15 (Sheep ranches) Of course, you can gie your Livestock ranches tools, which you want to do anyways, but then they do consume 5 tools +10 wheat to create 36 fabric. Now wheat used to be a total non factor before this patch, but it is actually somewhat relevent now that every single farm in the game has been nerfed, so there's less of a wheat flood going on. So overall I'd say that if your goal is to get fabric, cotton farms are not a bad idea, they only eat 4900 laour, which as Japan you have plenty off. And yeah their wages wont be fantastic, but too be fair, the lionshare of the wages for your ranch workers will also be very low. (The ranches do have some better profession pops but their total is like 900 out of 4900 so I'd not value them as a significant improvement over cotton fields) Also you don't necesserily want your people to consume meat, as you want to get them onto Groceries eventually, and your initial Groceries will probably be fed by fish canning not meat canning. And it's easier to get them from grain to groceries than from meat to groceries. It's admitedly rather niché and I don't think you'll be that much better or worse off eitehr way, but something to consider if you're transitioning into an eco.

Jokes aside, here's most common things that limit GDP Growth and messes you up that you should avoid: Don't go in the red (Don't take credit as you are not a GP/MP) Delete and rebuild Construction sectors when needed so as to avoid debt Focus mid game on grinding on your industrial buildings (iron mines, tools, wood, fiber) Try to industrialize ASAP

Also when I play Japan I tend not to build any farms early... problem is they don't do anything for your unemployment because it takes away arable land, you're just taking away subsistence jobs and adding the same amount of jobs back as farming jobs. As your minimum expected standard of living increases you will have massive turmoil due to unemployment later on or you will need to spend a LOT on welfare subsidies. So it's better to just make the chemical plants because that's actually adding jobs. I also try to skip agrarianism and go right for interventionism, this can be made easier if you have a protectionist leader of the Shogunate or some other interest group before pissing them off too much. Generally speaking forming imperial Japan doesn't have much initial payoff, it's only when you are able to complete the restorations that it becomes worth it. Kicking out the Shogun as early as possible doesn't help you get those restorations done any time sooner. It can even be worthwhile to actually fight that first civil war properly instead of cheesing it if for no other reason than it keeps your unemployment low lol. Last I played was in 1.5 though so idk if Japan's excess population is still as difficult to handle as it was.
