FORREST GUMP (1994) REACTION - had me ugly crying! First time watching! 

"Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. Forrest Gump is one of the rare examples when the movie is better than the book.

I'm a depressed man and I watched a million reactions to Forrest Gump. Yours was very wholesome. Thank you.

That smile Lt. Dan and Forrest Gump exchanged at his wedding is honestly the part that made me tear up the most. A smile that basically says "we made it" and the fact that Lt. Dan actually addresses Forrest by his first name towards the latter of the film, which indicates how close they became through all of their hardships and adventures together.

One thing of note, that is never alluded to in the film, is that for Forrest Gump to receive the Medal of Honor, his direct commanding officer (Lt. Dan) will have had to write a personal letter of recommendation for the award. So although he hated Forest for doing what he did, he did recognize his heroic actions and made it a point to ensure Forest was given what he deserved.

Forrest is always running to get to where he is going. Jenny is always running from where she has been.

The only time I ever cried at the movie theater was when Forrest told Jenny's tombstone :...he's so smart...". I just lost it at that moment. This is one of the best movies that I have ever seen.

This movie is so genuine when it comes to the feelings it pulls out of the people who watch it. Truly a masterpiece. Toms acting was stellar

Marley thank you for not being too harsh to Janey over how much she hurst Forrest. As you know she was abused by her father and there is a saying: Hurt people, hurt people. She tells Forrest he doesn’t know what love is, because SHE doesn’t know what love is. Also, being abused makes you feel not worthy of love, or even kindness. She had a breakthrough when she almost died, that’s when we see her come back and spend time with Forrest. She had the final one when she had a child. When you have a kid self destructive acts like doing heavy drugs are hurting more than just yourself and it can really wake you up.

I love this little dialog moment. After Jenny sleeps with Forrest, and she is catching the cab, the driver asks, innocently, "Where are you running off to?" and she responds "I'm not running." The driver did not mean it as an accusation, but Jenny heard it as an accusation, because she **was** running.

Even though it veers dangerously close to farce during his run ("Have a Nice Day!"), this is still one of the most moving films I've ever seen. After seeing it in the theater, my wife couldn't talk about it the whole drive home she was so emotionally effected. The president shot towards the end was Ronald Reagan - he was shot around March, 1981 and nearly died.

My mom looked exactly like Sally Field when we were kids and were convinced she had a secret movie career, I sincerely cried when she died. And that's all I have to say about that...Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant, even when playing a local idiot. When LT. Dan comes with his magic legs made from the same as the space shuttle...the next year they were in Apollo 13th together! One of the most clever, hilarious, heartfelt films ever.

The braces on his legs were to straighten his back. He had scoliosis. You're supposed to believe that by the time he ran out of the braces his back had been straightened and he no longer needed them.

It was Ronald Reagan who was shot near the end, Jenny couldn't tell Forest because he was off running and she had decided to fix herself before going to introduce forest to his son. That's my take anyway.😀

What is tough for modern audiences is how much of the history and historical people that are in the movie.

You know it's a classic when it holds up this well after so many years😊

After he did this movie Lt. Dan (Gary Sinise) Spends most of his time trying to help veterans.

Forrest did need the braces. If I recall, I think they were insinuating that Forrest had scoliosis, which is a curve in the back and spine. The braces were there to help straighten out that curve.

It definitely has a few 'sad' parts, but as a whole, it's a BEAUTIFUL movie. The kind you remember for the rest of your life. Kind of like The Sixth Sense, The Green Mile, and The Shawshank Redemption.

Maybe for those young people that do not know all the songs from 50 years ago - the Vietnam scene where he gets out all the wounded from his platoon is a reference to the song "He ain't heavy, he's my brother".

Dan tells Forrest in the bar, u become a captain and I'm an astronaut! Later when he's walking, he tells Forrest his legs are made of Space Shuttle material! Then they both star in Apollo 13!!! Type in here Forrest Gump speech!! Irony... Kurt Russell met Elvis as a kid,then did a movie with him a few years later,then did John Carpenter first TV movie about Elvis, then played Elvis a couple times like in 3000 miles to Graceland, then does Elvis voice, here! Pro tip...the kid, grew up, joined the military, and was in some hardcore units!

I keep hearing from others that the thing that pops out as an American is we up and start talking with complete strangers like we've known them for years. This reflection I feel represents myself entirely.

Forrest Gump is more proof that 1994 is one of the greatest years for movies and the 1990s is one of the greatest decades in film history. This emotional rollercoaster beat other great, timeless movies like Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption. This was a match made in heaven, so to speak

I was a kid at the end of the Vietnam War and those University’s students treated the returning military people like crap. Spitting on them and calling them baby killers. So did the peace activist and those flower power punks.

The thing with Jenny's behavior is simple psychology! As a daughter of an abusive, violent father, she learned, that the people you trust the most, your parents, hurt her and don't love her. So later she felt never good enough for anybody and attracted violent men. She was just trying to protect Forrest from herself. In a weird way, but that's how it is. Something like this happening to you as a child or at any age is a big trauma, that will destroy most of your life, till you get a chance to work on it. It is ofc way more complex, but I think, it explains her behavior a little better. Have a good one! ✌🏻

I really love how much Lt. Dan made peace with God since he was engaged to a Vietnamese woman after going through the Vietnam War. It just shows that he moved on and doesn't hold it against who they were fighting.

The actors that played Forrest and Lt. Dan were also in The Green Mile as a prison guard and a lawyer and in Apollo 13 as Astronauts! Both excellent movies but have tissues for both! 😉😉👱‍♀👱‍♀👗👗👠👠❤❤

Greatest movie of all time. People don't realize how deep this movie is.

Every box of chocolates has a legend with a description of what's inside. So there's that!

40:16 President Ronald Reagan was shot on March 30, 1981 by John Hinckley who was mentally ill and was infatuated by Jodie Foster. He thought this act would impress her. President Reagan survived and recovered.

Great reaction like always, this movie its one of my favourites its such a masterpiece of cinema. Every character moment or performance in this movie is incredible perfection. The story is simple but interesting, funny and heartbreaking at the same time. The movie was based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The author actually went to write the first draft of the flick before it went into production. Forrest was supposed to be a heavier man who sat at 242 pounds and stood at 6-foot-6. In the book, he became a wrestler, went to space and even hung out with an orangutan. And some fun-facts about this movie, Tom Hanks’ brother did some of that running in the movie Jim Hanks, himself an actor and filmmaker, doubled for his older brother on set, including in numerous sequences featuring Forrest’s high-knee, arm-pumping run. Tom hanks daugther was in this movie in a cameo if you keep an eye out for a surly redheaded girl in the bus scene, when young Forrest can’t find a place to sit (until Jenny invites him to sit next to her). That’s Hanks’ daughter, Elizabeth. While actor Peter Dobson played a not-yet-famous Elvis Presley as a lodger in the Gump household in a brief scene with young Forrest, the voice belongs to none other than actor Kurt Russell. Why? Russell, who was uncredited in the film, had played Presley already in a 1979 biopic directed by John Carpenter titled, appropriately enough, Elvis. And if you are wondering what Gump says in those few moments of radio silence? Well, according to Tom Hanks, the full speech reads: “Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. Pro tip I've seen other channels do when they gotta take a copyright break or talk, muffle the sound and blur the screen. It provides a smoother watch and feels less choppy and you don't get the feeling like you're watching a "Forrest Gump clips reaction" because of the constant cut to black moments. The actor right behind Forrest approaching the protester's stage in Washington DC was Sony Bono of "Sonny & Cher" fame. He was a prominent "Hippy" and anti-Vietnam War activist in the late 60's and early '70's and it is cool that he appeared in a cameo in this movie.

The way Forrest's' life experiences are woven into true history makes for such a great story line!

I would say not "sad", but "touching".

i don't know why people think of this film as a "sad" film. i find it rather uplifting. if someone like gump can lead such a accomplished and fullfilling life maybe there's hope for the rest of us. but blind faith in hope can be a very disappointing and destructive thing. thanks for the video.

Also, the actor playing LT Dan is Gary Sinise. This film inspired him to do great work for our Veterans, men and women in uniform and for underprivileged children. He has a biopic that he wrote called "Grateful American" in 2019. A great read. Sinise also co founded the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago in 1974. It graduated great stage and screen actor alumni over the years like John Malkovich and Joan Allen as examples. If you want to see another great Sinise-Hanks pairing, I recommend "Apollo 13" It is a very accurate account of the famous April 1970 Space Mission from 1995. Gary Sinise stars with Tom Hanks, the late Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon. The late James Horner does a great score. Ron Howard directs the film. A great film. I always like your reviews Marley.😊

Someone really should start an American history course covering the events in Forest Gump. It's one of the best highlights of US history from the 50s to the 90s I've seen on film.

I always comment the same thing in reaction videos. I saw this when it came out in the theater. I was maybe thirteen. The scene in Vietnam where it goes from the rain stopping and the sun coming up to the violent ambush was one of the most shocking transitions I've seen in a film.

So, I'm pretending that no one in 187 comments brought this up, Tom Hanks modeled how Forrest speaks after how the actor who plays Young Forrest actually spoke, since it was easier for him to copy how the younger actor spoke than it was for the younger actor to change how he spoke.

Everyone rips on Jenny for leaving that last time, I think she wanted to better for Forrest so she went into rehab to get better, and since its the 80's the only way she can contact him is by phone or letter, and Forrest was running for 4 years straight with no way to get in touch

Excellent movie. Forest is pretty much the main character of the world.

I just liked and subscribed. You earned it with this reaction. Forrest Gump is my favorite film of all-time. Just a grand achievement. Sometimes funny, very dramatic. Lots of emotions pouring through. Wonderful sound and special effects. The "Is he smart" line was so well crafted by Hanks. We knew exactly what he was trying to say. From my repeat viewing and internal thought-process, I think the film is massively deep. Forrest is depicted as a simple man with simple morals. He wasn't meant to have an intellectual disability. The film reminds us that anybody can make a difference in our society and that kindness, faith & understanding triumphs at the end. People have also noted that the film details American history between 1960 and the early 1980. This was a time when America was grieving over JFK's death (Assassination) and the ramifications of the Vietnam War. Forrest represented America's confusion.

From Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C in the book) Forrest Gump is the story of a generation; the historical touchstones, the music, the traumas, and the philosophical questions that we wrestled with. I have read that it is even used to help teach about the time period in some American History classes. I always enjoy watching people react to this movie to see which pieces of history are still remembered and which are no longer recognized.

Forrest ran a lot - from the seed Jenny planted and got far doing it - Jenny on the other hand ran away all the time - mostly from Forrest because she didn't think she was good enough for him because she got messed up by her dad.

Tom Hanks during 1990 and 1999 have been in 4 of my favorite movies of all time or should I say been in my top 10 of all times

Multimillionaire war hero and international sports celebrity starts running laps around the country for seemingly no reason... and the news reports him as a "gardener from Alabama"...

The leg braces are for his back. His legs are fine. His back was messed up. The braces correct the walkimg movement which rebuilds the back.

I definitely recommend Arrival with Amy Adam's. Top 10 movies of the last 25 years.

I definitely recommend watching the trailer for a Movie called Here Starring Tom Hanks & Robin Wright again however this Film looks like Cloud Atlis, Everything Everywhere all at once so a multiverse type of Movie I'm excited to check out.

I cried too.

1. The music royalties alone must have cost a small fortune🤑🤑 2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis. 3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks. 4. Having gotten his degree Forrest could have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. His ASVAB kills that. 5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😈 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. At the rally Forrest says, "There is only one thing I can saw about the war in Vietnam. Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 13. "Sometimes I guess there're just aren't enough rocks"🥺 14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis. 15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.

I didn't remember that the kid in here is the 6th sense movie kid : I see Dead People!!!

Upon reading the book, i felt it made it very ambiguous what was real and what was what Forrest thought was real, through his eyes. I think the movie very subtley and masterfully does that. The adaption from book to movie was really well done. Cool reaction, liked & subbed.
