I drive to Fort Desoto Beach Florida which is a close alternative to St Pete Beach. Today I explore the small Fort DeSoto Beach next to the pier and historic fort. This beach is small but has an interesting sunken building in the water from the 1900s. I explore Fort DeSoto Beach and the sunken building from the water.
Fort Desoto Beach is about 12 miles from St Pete Beach and is a great alternative when you can not get parking in the tiny parking lot. There are multiple beaches, including a dog beach, fishing pier and historical fort at Fort Desoto Beach. All of this is inside Fort De Soto State Park and it costs only $5 to get in to the park and there are hundreds of parking spots even on the most crowded days. If you are in the St Petersburg Florida area and you want to go to a beach with plenty of space and parking and even a park like setting with picnic gazebos and barbeque areas, Fort De Soto State Park is hidden beach that most tourists are not aware of. If you are looking for a relaxing alternative to Clearwater Beach Florida and St Petersburg beaches, you should consider Fort Desoto Beach.
