I appreciate the kind words! There are a lot of great aviation channels on here, but I'm trying hard to make my videos both fun and more importantly educational! Are you a pilot too?
I was at the keys three yrs ago for the first time , it was nice but I was surprised at the damage from a previous hurricane had not been cleaned up after 3-4 yrs , a lot of deadfall in the mangroves and damaged houses and structures, but overall nice place , loved the Key deer down on key island , they are not afraid of cars or people . This jet sure is nice seems smooth and quiet. Thanks for the ride!
Thanks for coming along! Yeah, hurricanes down there cause all kinds of damage and it takes a bit to recover from them.... then more come! The CJ3+ is such a great airplane! Very capable aircraft. I don't have enough good things to say about it.
I work really close to the Fll airport and while driving I always say hi to those airplanes . I wanna be a pilot and looking all those airplanes inspires me everyday. God bless you .
Nice! I grew up in South Florida and actually soloed at FLL in 1987 before it was as built up as it is now! Where are you working at, and have you done any type of discovery flight yet?
I just fly this one for the owner. I personally own a Piper Arrow. You're right, they are two different worlds, but you have to cross through one to get to the other!
I've been to Key West a few times from the early 90's up until around 2011. I've always driven down though from Miami. I had never seen Key West from the air until now! It's much bigger than I'd imagined. Loved your video!
Hello Captain! Many thanks for this awesome video. I flew as a private pilot for many years, and only once did I have the privilege of flying this route, Fort-Lauderdale Exec to Key West. It is really a beautiful flight, I had two good friends on-board with me, it was in a Cessna 182, and that was back in the mid 90s. I was flying VFR at the time with nothing more for nav-aid instruments than 2 VORs and one ADF, no auto-pilot! Subsequently after retiring from piloting, I did fly that route again using the FSX flight simulator, many times in Citations and also Lear Jets. So your video threw my back to many pleasant memories and awesome scenery! Thanks for sharing! Ron Montreal, Canada
I'm glad you liked it! When you did the 182 trip, did you go direct or go low down the coast/keys? I've done that trip many times too and it's quite beautiful on a nice day!
Loved every Minute of KFXE to KEYW, very Professional and Informative and Beautiful as ever!!! As I live Near KBCT Would love to see you at anytime because honestly you are 2nd to None!!!
@@josephheller-adammobiledia1726 I appreciate the comments! I'm down in South Florida a fair amount, but I have a lot of family down there and my time is usually taken up with them! What type of planes (if any) are you flying?
@@AccidentalAviator Oh for sure we had flown along the coast and then over the keys - it's a long time ago, but knowing me, we'd probably flown between 2500 & 4500 feet or so. The weather was CAVU that day, as it is most of the time I suppose!
What a pro!! Drive Miami to Key West early morning watching sun rise up over Atlantic. K.W. to Miami in the evening and watch sun set over the Gulf!! Incredible!!
Great Video for sure. I was stationed there VAQ-33 [FIREBIRDS] NAS Boca Chica Key from 1985 - 1990. Had a "Whale" of a time...EA A-3b's [Skywarrior] guy...Love the area then, now, not so much, but will revisit again soon! Blue Skies brother!
I really love to read comments like this! A lot of the "fear of flying" for people is really the "fear of the unknown!" You get scared of the things you can't see or be in control of. This definitely provides a little perspective as to what's going on up there. I'm currently in the middle of an Atlantic Crossing and I have a second pilot on board, so you'll now see how we work together as a crew! It will be very similar to how the airlines handle everything.
This is by far the best video I've seen of flying a private jet! I retired as a banner tow pilot out of North Perry...never wanted to fly bigger planes, but watching them is so much fun!
Thank you! How long were you flying banner towers out of Perry? Did you know Jimmy Goggin? (that's going back a bit) He was a friend of our family that I had done aerobatics with many years ago. He unfortunately died picking up a banner, I think back in 2004.
@@AccidentalAviator I flew the yellow "shitboxes" from Sept 2004 to July 2016. Never got to meet Jimmy but heard he was a great person and pilot. I was working full-time for Signature at MIA when he crashed cause I was saving for my tailwheel endorsement at the time and only flying banners part-time with the 172.
@@paulis7319 The aviation community is so small. It feels like everyone knows everyone, especially in South Florida. Jimmy was a good guy. I had a blast doing aerobatics in his Christian Eagle.
@@AccidentalAviator That makes two of us. I recall when the whole area was swamp, rock pits, and pastures. I did a bit of flying in my younger days from KOPF. Now I am focused on commercial photography and more specifically, drone photography. If you ever want to have some plane-to-plane photography done - let me know. I am always up to trade aerial photography for an empty right seat. Roger
Hello, been to Key West. many a time but always drove since we live in Bradenton. However, I have never flown into KW and as such your video was a real pleasure for me. Just reaffirmed what a unique and beautiful place this really is. Thanks again, Philipp
Yes Sir, like others have said ,probably the best single Pilot channel, and the best video I have watched in a while, retired 11 years ago flying a King Air B200T ( all analog ) and this brought back good memories. Thank you !
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. I learned to fly on all analog, and I'm glad I did, but the avionics now just make situational awareness amazing. Where were you flying the King Air out of?
@@AccidentalAviator Out of San Juan PR,maritime surveillance ,caribbean sea ,along with US Coast Guard, US Customs,CBP, HIDTA program also with local Police Dept.Did that for 25 years also flew rotorcraft. When ICE was created they had their own aircraft and funds were scarce. There was also a " fat albert" on the south west corner of the Island , that also brought memories.15 years prior to that , did Avionics installs for several outfits in South FL and also flew commuter small outfits which all went bankrupt, that was what led me to stay in law enforcement.1988 to 2013.
@@jjsifo1 The instructor that got me through my instrument, commercial, and multi used to own a small airline (flying queen airs I think) out of St. Thomas. He was an Air Traffic Controller and A&P/IA also. I have yet to make it down to Puerto Rico! I've been to DR, St. Thomas and Saint Maarten
I went to Key West in the early 90s, haven’t been since. Now that I live in Florida I would love to drive down, taking my time to stop here and there along the way then fly back since it’s about a 10 hr drive from where I live on the west coast. I’m sure KW has changed a lot since I was there last!
I was in Key😢 West on the Bushnell the night before what they call the Bay of Pigs invasion. Justvfound you. Beautiful, t thanks for the flight & sharing. 🤎🇺🇲👍
Just found your channel. We live in South Florida and love visiting the keys. Have always drove. Great video. Makes we want to go down there again. Beautiful perspective from the air. I am not a, pilot... very informative from a pilot's perspective. Looking forward to more videos.
Awesome! Thank you for watching! It is a little different perspective from up there looking at everything going on in South Florida and the keys. I've made that drive from Lauderdale a few times too and much prefer the 30 minute flight! :-)
Key West approach very nice. I have flown commercial there many times. What fond memories for sure. I am confident that your return flight was on point. Thank you very much.
I actually recorded the flight prior to this one (flying out of Key West to Fort Lauderdale), but I just haven't edited it yet. I thought going into Key West had more beautiful scenery so I put this one up first.
@@Nakiethia12 This was actually on a Sunday. I remember them talking to a departing aircraft saying the "Navy Class D was closed." Does the Navy not fly on Sundays down there?
@@AccidentalAviatorlol nope. We have temporary reduced tower hours. Our tower is closed on Sundays. 😅 we still work approach everyday though. Maybe it’ll be me you talk to next time you fly down! Safe flying!
What a journey you’ve laid out. I really appreciated the satellite view of the route you’re planning. It really gives perspective of the cities and ferry routes as you hop from island to island. The Scottish countryside is truly quite beautiful. Thanks for filming your adventures for us Kevin. Cheers from Florida 🌴🌴👍
That's cool.i see you often flying over my house here at the gardens of palm Aire and I at times hang at the observation deck.i had no idea how busy you are in the cockpit 😮 thanks for the trip
Just found your channel. Lovin it. Never fulfilled my dream of becoming a pilot so i will vicariously through you!. Youre right. Key West not. What it used to be. I prefer islamorada. Looking forward to the next one.
Fun to watch!! I used to flight instruct at North Perry many moons ago. Did a few NDB approaches into Marathon when I was doing my Double I training and have flown a bit over the Keys. This video brought back many good memories of flying in South Florida. Thanks for a great trip down memory lane.
Been to Key West many times. Only flown in and out of the Keys one time. That was on an American Eagle connection flight out of Miami to Marathon. That was in the mid 1990s. I haven’t been to Key West now in 20 years. It’s about a 17 hr drive from my house and I’m not as young as I used to be. I can’t handle them long drives like I used to could. I’ve made the drive from Hollywood down to Key West many times. Which is basically the same as the flight you took. If I remember right I took 5 to 7 hours to drive, what took you 30 minutes to fly. Just found your channel. I’ll have to take a look at what else you have. Have a good day.
Yeah when I used to live in Lauderdale we'd drive down there and it was about a 5 hour drive. Much nicer in the plane! I never realized that airlines flew in and out of Marathon. It's been a while since I was there, and probably the last time was in the 90s. 17 hours away now, are you up in Georgia / NC?
The first video I’ve watched on this channel. A delight to see a solo pilot operating a CJ3+, using checklists, briefing a flight plan, and dealing with radios and ATC in a busy airspace, along with beautiful views over the Florida Keys. Contrast that with the videos on RU-vid about the last flight of Learjet N452DA, which show how to completely screw up all those things. As a non-pilot, I’ve watched those, but now it’s good to see how things are done professionally.
I appreciate the kind comments! I've read a lot about and watched tons of videos on N452DA. Pretty tragic what happened there on many levels. I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and comment on it! If there's anything else you'd like to see or if I can answer any questions for you, please let me know!
6/10/24..1st time viewer (👍& subscribed); trip to Key West Intnl. Beautiful VFR day for kinda busy IFR (solo) cockpit activity. Beautiful Glass (Garmin) instrument panel. Great commenting & editing with 'pop-up' Approach Plates appreciated. Am 78 now, old USAF ATC Europe in 70's, total IFR Airspace, Berlin Corridors etc. Suprised at size of airport re: size of island appearance on grandkids USA Map! Stay safe & always go IFR...all help is just a push button away!⚙️👨🔧👍😊
Welcome aboard! I appreciate you watching and commenting. I assume that ATC has changed a bit too since the 70s? Probably computers helping out a lot more than they used to? Thank you for your service!
@@AccidentalAviator 6/11/24..thx for yur response; talk about tech change! Wow! I am seeing Fantastic computer anticipation/'traffic' & 'terrain' cockpit verbal warnings & also controller radar Altitude & Path/track 'convergence' projection warnings. Also Tower controllers with some type of Altitude sensors on incoming arrivals. Horrified when Juan Brown ( BlancOlrio) mentioned 'new'(?) FFA taxi & placement of 'next' Departure a/c on 'Active R/W >before< (very) short a/c on Final has landed!!! Then other Tower problems: taxi way-Active R/W over crowding issues events...back in 't-day' nobody allowed on R/W until arrival (safely) landed & rolling away or Departure had 'rotated'.. but ' overcrowding' has caused several 'panic' (voice) Tower command 'reversals/cancilations' due to last minute realizations of conflict...JFK incident while back. So yes, ATC system & computer improvements, cockpit & Controller areas since 70's has much improved...but man-o-man, everybody, pilots & controllers gotta be awake, on their 'A' game at all times!
@@jamescole1786 Yeah, I learned to fly starting in the mid 80's before all the fancy avionics, and I'm kind of glad I did. One of the planes I flew in the late 80s had a LORAN and I thought it was the greatest thing ever! Avionics have made the skies a lot safer, but when those things break, some pilots don't seem to know what to do with themselves. That, and as you have said, the skies are getting very crowded. It's crazy how much busier south Florida airports have gotten. You controllers do an amazing job!
Enjoyed the IFR ride in the CJ3+. I learn a lot from your comms with ATC, and your commentary/explanations. Miss flying VFR in the right seat with my dad years ago in a 172 around Toronto area. He’d be amazed with today’s avionics.
Glad you enjoyed it! I learned to fly in the 80s, and the changes in avionics are just outrageous to me. The situational awareness and safety produced from them is through the roof! Let me know if I can answer any questions for you!
What an awesome visual approach. I’m in flight training working on my CFI rating currently in CRG (based in PIE) and watching this helps me stay motivated for what’s possible in the future. Thanks for sharing!
Came across your video on my RU-vid homepage and I love it, the content is great and I love how you explain everything you are doing...THANK YOU!!! working on my hours so I can obtain a similar job, looking forward to viewing all your previous videos.
Awesome! Welcome! I'm trying to keep my videos more on the educational side rather than entertainment so I *try* to teach something on every flight. Where are you flying out of?
I got my Private many years ago at FLL Intl and we used to use Boca Raton and Key West to practice cross wind landings and takeoffs. Did my first cross country FLL to Naples. Thanks for your great videos!
Very cool! So, I soloed at FLL in 1987! My first "landings" were at OPF and I too practiced crosswinds at Boca. That's where everyone went to practice crosswinds! Ironically enough, my first solo cross country was to Naples too! It was easy to follow state road 84 across the everglades! What year did you solo?
@@AccidentalAviator Would have been around 1994 or so. Still have my ripped T Shirt! I think the outfit was called Big Sky Aviation at the FLL FBO. Its been so long
@@AccidentalAviator I went to Destin Florida with my family last year on vacation. The beaches and ocean water looked amazing. I’m for Kansas so my family and I had never seen water that clear. We are talking about going to Miami on are next vacation.
Thanks for sharing. The post edit work is excellent and hopefully inspired by some earlier videos. Love the use of keyframes. The pilot perspective is really appreciated. Stay safe!!
I try to learn/add something new in adobe each time I do a video. Post flight edits are becoming a little easier now that I've been doing it for a year! I need to find someone to teach me how to make things more polished! :-)
Just found this channel- top notch audio and video quality/mixing, and excellent narration, comms, and flying! I flew to Marathon during my PPL training from F45 right down the coast at like 400’. This is busy and hectic airspace! Currently working on my IR now! This content is so inspiring.
I learned to fly in South Florida (out of FLL then eventually FXE). I've been in and out of F45 a ton. It's a great little airport. My father got his glider licenses there. The flight down the beach "at or below 500 feet" is always great! If I can answer anything for you regarding your instrument, ask away!
@@AccidentalAviator That's so awesome! Props to you for learning to fly in such busy airspace. There's a surprising amount of aviation RU-vidrs based out of South FL actually. I believe a tower installation (much needed) and runway lengthening is planned for F45. And thanks, will send you a message with a question should any arise!
Great videos as usual. Took my family and 2 dogs on 3 trips to KEYW from KLZU in my C182. Made a fuel stops and potty breaks for the puppies along the way. Always a fun time between Fed. - March.
Good stuff! Family and 2 dogs in the 182? I'm guessing they are tiny puppers! I love hearing other peoples stories. I've been in LZU a few times (although it's been a while) in the jet. I've got a lot of family/friends in the Atlanta area.
You've got this right! You have to visit Key West at least once. Explore Doval Street, the museums and see a sunset, But Marathon, Islamorada and Key Largo is where you go back to! I appreciate you watching!
Yeah, not much changes from the air other than the number of planes up there. On the ground, just the population density. Both Key West and South Florida have exploded since the 70s/80s!
@@AccidentalAviator Oh my, yes! Moved to Miami in '71 as a 10 yr old, then Ft. Lauderdale in the '80's, then Palm Beach in the 90's ... and in '97 the population of Palm Beach County had exceeded 1 MILLION people! Moved the family to mountains of NC in 1997. 😄👍
@@PatrickSBellSr I lived in Lauderdale from 82 through 2010 then moved to Wilmington, NC. So you remember I-95 not even being finished back in the 70's and 80s. You had to hop off at Fort Pierce and take the turnpike the rest of the way. Now it's like 6-8 lanes in both directions!
@@AccidentalAviator Yes! We called it "The Missing Link"! Another memory is that US-1 was only a couple of lanes wide in front of Hollywood - Ft.Lauderdale Airport (in DANIA!) and there was only one entrance into FLL and it had a train level-crossing - if a freight train came by there was a 50/50 chance you'd miss your flight. Ah, a simpler time...😎
@@PatrickSBellSr in 82, Route 84 (alligator alley) was 2 lanes heading into FLL, and any road west of university was a dirt road. We moved to Inverarry then which had a PGA tournament and was one of the most beautiful place! A lot has changed since then. They've run out of land to build on in Broward county, now everything they're building is up!
First time here. Enjoyed the video! I'm a CFII that just completed my MEL rating yesterday. 50 years, old hoping to have a second career as a pilot. Time will tell.
Thx for all you do in putting these vis together, esp the post-prod. You are correct, Key West has become too touristy, and I prefer Marathon and central keys more, but usually have friends who MUST visit Key West…….
Exactly! If you've got friends that have never been there, you have to do the touristy thing with them! There is a lot of great stuff to do there, it's just very crowded.
