This is my hometown. 3 yrs ago we had a cat. 5 here in the panhandle. I also lived thru a cat5 when I was a child on avenue e on fort Myers beach. I am so sorry you have been so deeply affected and know just how you feel. We are just beginning to rebuild after 3 yrs. here in Marianna. I miss my home there every day. Sending you love and prayers.

Yes we Floridians are resilient, but we Floridians are not stupid. A substantial amount of the destroyed properties were owned by outlanders who moved here during COVID with their wealth drove home values to a point where us locals could not afford it and the local realtors were a bunch of sellouts, builders could care less all they saw were $ and profits. I'm hoping that the insurance companies only pay out at 2019 values plus historical annual growth of 3%. So if you purchased a home that was valued at $250k in 2019 and paid $500k in 21 or early 22 tough shit. Your loss for being stupid. And don't ask either the state of fed Gov for $. Your risk, your stupidity, your greed, your loss. Take your greed and loses , leave. We Floridians are fair, loving, kind , love and take care our of our beautiful eco system and environment. Greedy we are not. Great opportunity for the Floridians to return to our normal life

The wealthy retirees want warm weather so they should buy high-ground lots in, Palm Beach on, "the hill" on, Division Avenue north of, Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. Before, "the hill" parcels start selling, $6M+. They are at, ~42' above sea-level. Right now? Parcels on, "the hill" are selling for relative peanuts at, $2.2M. Great strategic investment opportunities. My opinion.

I'm not sure the 80% of 70 80 or 90 year olds are that resilient unless they had have full insurance or serious life savings to rebuild. The questions in all their minds are what are our options looking at a slab or mud lot when is IAN II coming what then, we're 500 feet from the Ocean 7" above sea level...we might be able to rebuild but can we rebuild twice? .... My suggestion is to live in squalor until spring which time they either are rebuilding or realize it's time to leave for higher ground up north inland Georgia way perhaps.

@@saywhat951 Georgia? Great State, but not tropical year-round. So, year-round tropical seekers can find plenty of high-ground properties in, Palm Beach. Some at, 42 feet above sea level. And, IAN II, III, and IV are probalisticly coming with global warming and the, "Doomsday glacier" (Thwaites) situation reaching critical mass. I believe if you're not at, 35'+ in, Southern Florida, or can't afford it, you need to give up on a paradise lifestyle and relocate elsewhere but stay out of flood, tornado, drought, and fire regions in the U.S. As the wealthy baby boomers retire they may just make, Florida the, "new Bermuda" (unaffordable for most). But, anyone living on the coast lines ought to lookup, "Surfside Condo collapse" and fsctor-in climate change now undermining sea-side building structures. They're playing, "Roulette" living in these buildings. Parts of, Dade and, Broward counties are projected to be under water soon, west of the turnpike. So, IAN has served as a wakeup call perhaps saving millions of lives. Tragic at the expense of, West Coast lives. Let's hope high-rise buildings do not start collapsing like dominos. 🙏🤞♥️

I don't think it would be worth bringing it back. With global warming, these hurricanes and storm surges are becoming more and more severe.

It doesn't really get cold down there. I lived there for 25 yrs.

@@dandahl5964 75 is colder weather for us! Hopefully those without power can at the very least can try to get some sleep. After Irma and 9 days no power even the simplest things like sleep where very difficult. The house stayed a crappy 95 till like 4am. So much cleaning and work to do while you feel stuck trapped hot and sweaty and feel helpless plus tired as hell from trying to sleep in 95 degrees. So any lower temperperture is still some kind of a blessing.

Tell your client to go back to NY and stay.

Myers Beach for several years and still have friends that live there. I am worried about them and still don't know if they are okay or not. So maybe have some compassion.

I get the "frustration" with Mother Nature and the devastation it brought to us, however, when we look back at all the records we do have, there were ALWAYS hurricanes, some stronger some less crazy, nothing to do with global warming or anything humans did or do!... This is a total different story, one that Brandon tried to get onto us during his staged visit in SW Florida a few days ago...

@@danielthommen8243 I feel like the state isn't run well enough to go through these big storms. Busses should have been sent to evacuate the poor, elderly and disabled. No one cared about those people. That is why I'm so infuriated. Did we learn NOTHING from Katrina in LA? I guess not.

@TheTpanative Wait and see. This is a high revenue producing area, massive resources will be expended here. This will be an easier cleanup than the Keys due to the Keys being more remote and debris needed to be hauled great distances.

It's called science... palm trees evolved to bend and give way in the wind and water... they bend so they don't break (for the most part,) The fronds are strongly attached and their structure allow winds to pass trough them. If they didn't evolve this way, they would not have survived for millions of years, as the fossil record shows. Just dropping a little tropical botany education on you.

Palapa's breathe quite well, the trick is the stitching method and age as most breakdown at weak spots on roofs or if the walls are not secure so as to allow the building or Palapa's to lift slightly. So yes a cheap looking Palapa standing next to a destroyed home would not be out of the ordinary.

They have until next hurricane season to prepare.... If by then they have not built bomb shelters of houses those whom choose to rebuild with a couple of extra nails or screws will have a terrible second awakening, IAN II is playing a waiting game....unfortunately.

@@mwhite6522 NO your wrong, Stats of past no longer apply, Florida is new to Hurricanes so Stats are being compiled. Honduras got hit back to back Puerto Rico got hit back to back, do a History Search of every Island every Mainland hurricane or tropical depression / storm etc... The next series of Hurricanes to hit Florida will attack from all sides its only a matter of time as predicted hurricane's will increase to Category 6 and 7, hitting Miami at 6 it would enter the gulf at a 4 destruction across the path east to west. IAN spared Florida the damage isn't that bad when in 10 years we look back in 2032....after all Florida is a sand bar....

@@mwhite6522 you ever heard of the State of Louisiana? 2020 she got hit by not 1 not 2 not 3 not 4 but 5 Hurricanes! MARCO CRISTOBAL LAURA DELTA and ZETA! So what are the statistical odds that Florida won't be hit in the same Gulf Coast Region in the same year or any other year more than once.. I guess your not using Statistics NOAA NHC has been keeping for umpteen years.

@@saywhat951 I live in Louisiana. Cristobal was a weak tropical storm. None of the storms made landfall in the same place. Only Laura was catastrophic.

They're going to be living in squalor for the winter and into spring, unfortunately. Many people will have empathy now for true homeless people by no fault of their own, just like here. At least here one can run down to the ocean and bathe wash clothes etc. The pure joy of a flush toilet is something people won't take for granted for a LONG time...or a tap or faucet with clean water....

Hi Eric, you said it, rebound to 60 perhaps 70 % maybe, I think that is pushing it. Knowing it's a warning from Mother Nature it'll be really hard for most people to rebuild without the fear of this happening next year or the year after. I guess most elderly people have it really hard, if no insurance they are really in dire straits.... Imagine your life's work your life's savings gone washed out to sea washed inland.....

Mary, your comment is correct, a long time, the problem will be just how much time until the next Ian hits, probably not this year but perhaps next year. As the Scientists have indicated forget Category 4 or 5 as the planet is warming so we are to expect Category 6 & 7. It will be really though when IAN II hits after much of the rebuilding is complete only to be destroyed a second time. My family has packed, gone, not willing to go through this again, 500 feet from the Ocean, 7 inches above sea level...gone to higher ground.

Everyone that I know calls it a cat 5 because it was just 2 miles shy of it. Still it was extremely catastrophic 😔
