One or more nuns from the Carmelite Monastery in Arlington may be excommunicated after they issued a "strongly worded statement" denying the bishop's authority.
This isn't about faith or the authority of the church. It's about the value of the real estate where the nunnery sits. It's always about the money with authoritian goons.
No, the nuns are actively in schism by denying the authority of the bishop and the pope. It's automatic excommunication. There was no abuse if anything the bishop was soft on the mother. This isn't how catholic nuns should behave. As a catholic lay or clergy you are obedient to your bishop. This is Catholicism 101.
No. Rome falsely accused the priest. The nuns took up for the priest. That caused a visit from Rome. Then the nun was excommunicated and the priest is dead. I think the property the nuns were on will be very nice condos. They even have first time homebuyer assistance!
Challenging the Catholic Church's patriarchy is long overdue. Catholic women, especially the dedicated nuns, have historically bern considered "less than." This is one of the principal reasons that I left the Roman Catholic Church. Kudos to the sisters! I wish them well in their fight. Even if they are excommunicated, they will have won.
These women need to be heard. They should not have to be treated with disrespect in no way, shape, or form. Please Heavenly Father, help these women to be heard.
They took up for the priest. It was a false accusation by the bishop to take the land the nunnery is on. just google bishop olson. he does this about every year.
The church has always treated nuns like surfs, not precious souls. Vatican II's declaration that "nuns are no different than anyone else" was a slap in the face to their religious vocation. You certainly didn't hear that applied to priests. Each calling is different, but nuns also are worth of dignity and respect.
Being raised in the Catholic Church, I've observed that the leadership is no different than any political authority. Power and greed runs the Church and it is deteriorating rapidly. They have forgotten that it's God's house, not theirs. Practicing Catholics live on faith in God. Rome lives on faith in money.
From the audio files this Mother superior has changed her stories so many times that I can’t believe she is in there. The is a diagnosis for her behavior, I gathered a bit about her from the audio and her recent behavior. I wondering what agenda this attorney has?
The mother admitted to breaking her vows. As a catholic you can't disobey your bishop, it's the same as disobedience towards the pope. What the nuns are doing is cutting themselves off from Christ's church, willing. The mother refused to be held accountable for her actions, and by doing what they're doing is putting them in a spiritually precarious situation. Mass isn't valid if they are in schism.
@@marionmeadows2884 No she didn’t. Read the January edition of the Texas Monthly titled The Bishop who messed with the wrong nuns. She NEVER MET the priest Olson has accused her of sleeping with. They were pen pals. That’s it. Not very sexy eh? Mother Superior made the mistake of confiding to an old spiritual advisor that she was worried that the relationship she had developed by correspondence with a priest, who was a fellow cancer survivor like herself, had become too close and she might be falling in love with this person. The spiritual advisor told Olson, who had the pretext he needed to take over the nun’s land. He pounced. When the nuns resisted his bullying Olson publicly accused her of breaking her vow of chastity, which is a damn lie.
@@orion2250 That’s a lie. She never met the priest Olson has accused her of sleeping with. Read The Bishop who messed with the wrong nuns, in the Jan2024 edition of the Texas Monthly. It’s all a lie.
He can sever their relationship with christ because that can't receive the eucharist, which as catholics we believe christ is present in. As well as excommunication, which means they are no longer in communion with the one, true church. As a catholic you don't disobey your bishop, they're not protestants even though they're acting like it.
No secular authority on Earth can halt an excommunication, even if secular law enforcement finds the nuns completely blameless. In most instances, powerful bishops simply win by default and that's that. But "two people say" is mere hearsay unless the two people can be produced and identified and their testimonies rigorously and critically examined. The bishop has not implied that he heard this testimony in the confessional, so there is no unbreakable bond of silence. In fact, to put it crudely, this hot mess stinks like a put up job.
I am in no position to take sides on this issue. I do have opinions about what unfolded and continues to unfold concerning these latest developments. Humility seems to be strongly lacking and perhaps it all boils down to personal egos. God will know best...and will judge acccordingly
Unfortunately for this nun, the audio between the bishop and her have been public, after listening to the whole interview Bishop Olsen was very gentle in his questioning, she seemed to be cooperating and was in agreement with all that Bishop Olsen was required to do under the circumstances. He does have jurisdiction over the religious in his diocese as he has been placed there as the Pope’s rep. Whatever your feelings toward Bishop Olsen he had to perform an action for the spiritual safety of the other nuns of the community, obviously someone from inside was the first to notify him of the shenanigans of this nun! She has brought scandal to her monastery, threatened their spiritual well being as well as scandal to the Church. The evil is is in what this attorney has caused as well. She should have left the monastery after the first fiasco hit the news. Prayers are truly needed.
You really have this story twisted. The Sister confided in a priest who told the bishop. She “reported” it, in other words. And Olson decided to bring his posse to the convent and raid the enclosure. Doesn’t matter how smarmy and gentle he recorded himself sounding, he released the recording which is outrageous.

People in this comment that are saying the bishop should be investigated, did you guys listen to what was said in this video at all, or am I the only one that heard the part where the bishop heard from someone that the nun that started this whole thing said she may have broken her vows by being intimate, and the other nuns are only getting punished because they're causing new problems for the church by supporting the nun that duly deserved to be excommunicated, or are you guys intentionally deciding to not pay attention to that part?
@GeorgeGeorge-by2lfshe admitted it and by denying the authority of their bishop they are in schism which is automatic excommunication. It's Catholicism 101. Nuns are to be obedient to the bishop, this isn't protestantism. Go read what St. Ignatius said obedience to your bishop.

Admire this bishop. He got a lot of abuse but he was correct. No hard deal with the nun she is attractive so I can see what has occurred. I guess she needs to step down
