I left my love in California. I've been there 4 times. Each time was to visit my grandfather. This year we had planned to go see him and he died the morning we were leaving. Despite it being a sad occasion, it was still a great time. Maybe I sound evil for saying that. But my grandmother is Mexican and it's sort of in their culture to celebrate someone's life after they die instead of just mope. She literally took us to breweries and beaches the same week her husband of 30+ years died. Such a loving and beautiful care-free place. The people are so much nicer. I watched the sunset on imperial beach. It was like a movie scene. Some went silent and watched the sunset, some kept talking, some kept surfing. And I just took all the beauty of it in. Oh, what I would do to live with people I love in San Diego. I'm just afraid it would lose its magic if I lived there. Bonus story: during a certain cycle of the moon during specific seasons, fish called grunions surface on the beach to mate. The female buries herself in the sand and the males come up and sort of wrap themselves around their mate. But the sheer number of them that appear on the beach is amazing. There will just be wave after wave of fish. Some people will collect them and eat them. Some people would just watch. When I was there, there was someone just walking up and down the beach, keep in mind it's like 4am, playing "the grunion song" on guitar. There's definitely a beauty to it. A magic. Wonder. Anyways.
