@@jasminecorreia1175 there are a lot of TO folks who have figured out ways to do this virtually. I've engaged in some as both a facilitator and a participant, and found it a valuable work around.

I think she did a good job of showing the "point" of this kind of methodology. Small changes can have a huge impact, that drives the message that we all can be agents of change, day-by-day and step-by-step, we should not leave change to larger-than-life heroes, militant leaders & the like.

did this for my Masters degree final project with a group of high school students and evaluated it as an anti-bullying program. Still use it in my drama classes.

It is amazing that they managed to introduce and run a piece of Forum Theatre in 18 minutes. But indeed, it does not take long to discover and make a change. I find that it usually takes more than two repetitions of a scene to find an effective alternative possibility. However, a non-magical solution to most impasses can be identified in about eight to ten repetitions. Originally developed to tackle oppression non-violently, it is also used in a wide range of other settings from company board room disputes to family dispute resolution. It is low cost and quick. Discoveries made in this way than then be tested out in practice. The key to the success of Forum seems to be that problems are objectified (presented objectively) and the imagination of a large audience can be concentrated on where the problem lies and how to fix it.

It's great what they're doing, but the performers aren't projecting their voices unto the audience enough. Especially in large spaces such as the TEDX auditioriums, that is crucial.

TOTO is an excellent form of theatre, But, what about the people among the audience who do not dare to enter the stage to express their feelings, wonders and experiences? Are they to forget? Of course not. There is several ways to make the "Silent Audience" to be heard.

FT and TOTO is very democratic... you don't want to participate, you don't , you choose your own level of participation...As a drama teacher I drew a picture of openness - a view to the sea; a boat, clouds , a flag on top of the sailing boat and then water and whats beneath it (rocks, fish etc). Every student could indicate, how much he/she is ready to participate and draw their name or symbol in the picture. Few did but themselves under the rock, ferw on the clouds ("I can talk about everything" , "I can do whatever") many on the boat and quite few beneath the water level and next to the fish etc.

Surely the Spectactor takes on the role of the person being Oppressed rather than a witness or the oppressor?
@flemsehod
@flemsehod 6 лет назад
Yes! I was thinking the same! I studied forum theatre in Norway. My teacher was one of Augusto Boal's students. She always made us take the part of the oppressed. We didn't have a choice. The whole point was to learn what we (The oppressed) can do in difficult situations WITHOUT oppressing back. :-)

What's the difference between Forum Theatre and Theatre of the oppressed?
@CandyDiababa
@CandyDiababa 4 года назад
Forum theatre (along with invisible theatre and image theatre) is a part of the body of work that is called the theatre of the oppressed; at least according to what I was taught
@antoniovalencia1831
@antoniovalencia1831 4 года назад
Theatre of the oppressed is a book which is essentially Boals manifesto, forum theatre is a type of theatre within this manifesto.

I personally feel really affected by this. I think that people don't alway respect their cashier and that should not be happening. I rate this video 8.6/10 points due to the mediocrely bad voice acting.
