This video formalizes our understanding of covariant basis transform (like the rotational example from the introduction module) as well as describes how appropriate transforms may be applied to both the basis and coordinates of a tensor such that its fundamental value is preserved. It defines the forward transform of a covariant basis set as well as its inverse: the backward/reverse transform. We also describe how appropriately corresponding transforms may be applied to the coordinate/coefficient arrays.
This lecture is one of several covering topics from our “Introduction to Tensors for Non-Mathematicians" course. We have grouped these related lecture videos into an appropriately labeled channel playlist. We have also written an accompanying text for these lectures. It is not available yet, but a link to that text will be provided as soon as possible. Please place any questions or corrections in the comment section.
