( www.TFLcar.com ) The 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GT is one of the most sexy cars that has come out of the Ferrari Factory in Italy. Yet for the longest time this classic Italian design was under valued and under appreciated just because it didn't have the Ferrari Badge. Welcome to Forza Friday: a new TFLcar series of classic Italian rides that will be featured every Friday on TFLcar. This week we begin with a car that many Ferrari enthusiast shined simple because it carries the name of Enzo Ferrari's son...Dino. Unlike classic Ferrari's the Dino had a six instead of an eight cylinder engine. It also does not carry the father's last name but never-the-less this is a true Ferrari as we explain in this fun and informative TFLcar Forza Friday video.

The car is a rolling sculpture - that plays music. I have had a few Ferraris over the years but I never had one of these. Always wanted one, though. Couldn't touch one today.

It looks way better with those closed headlights. Really good looking car. I'd take this over a new Italia.

the Dino. named after Enzo's son
@BROCKWOOD64
@BROCKWOOD64 8 лет назад
It's a Ferrari that is named Dino in honor of his son, who came up with the entire concept. The 6 cylinder engines were designed by Ferrari but forged, machined & assembled by another company that also used them for a model of their own. Dino Ferrari & Dino Fiat are rare & yes they are 2 completely different cars that share the same engine. It is the Italian version of a Road Runner. A young playboys' car.

6:20 - I think this guy has the right mentality. Its a beautiful car but its just so slow! 175hp (crank) when new (at sea level). Today at altitude it must be at about 100whp? No V8. I use to drive a beautiful car that got me attention everywhere I went. People always ask about power and want to race. It kind of takes the shine of a car when a modern Camry can beat "a rear Ferrari". Either way, beautiful classic car.

Performance is more than OK for the 2000cc or 2400cc class in the 1970's! :) Even the 206 GT should be plenty powerful compared to a 1300cc Alfa Romeo or 1300cc Lancia. Americans are obsessed with overly huge engines. ;)

These cars always look bigger than they really are in films and on television. When you see one up close they are tiny especially compared the the modern day Ferraris

This was not a Dino Ferrari inspired project. The inspiration for a mid-engined car came not from anyone with Ferrari, but by Pininfarina, who suggested to Enzo that he should build a mid-engined production car. Enzo resisted worried that such a car with a V-12 engine would be too dangerous for public use. Enzo said if you use our V-6, then go ahead with the project.
@wclark3196
@wclark3196 6 лет назад
It might be nice if you did a bit of research before having some guy jabber half-truths. Not a Ferrari, but a Dino. Dino Ferrari had nothing to do with the car, he was long dead before it was made. Enzo didn't want anything that wasn't a V-12 wearing the Ferrari name.

Grande Ferrari Dino
@1240enzo
@1240enzo 8 лет назад
Incorrect, it is a Ferrari. The Fiat Dino (coupe and spider) is a different car, aside from the engine which they share. It is true that when they built the Dino, the weren't badged Ferrari but they were assembled alongside Ferraris and the majority of componentry in them is Ferrari. The reason they were not badged Ferrari is because at the time, Enzo was of the view that only V12 Ferrari's should carry the name. Strangely enough, though because if you go back in Ferrari history, the company actually built a twincam 4 cylinder version of the original (V12) Testarossas (1950s) model. And with history, the Dino has become accepted by all as being a true Ferrari and is now considered one of the most valuable and fasted appreciating/collectible Ferraris outside of the 250 range of V12 Ferraris.

@TheAmishSasquatch

TassieLorenzo just need to look at it to see that it's a real Fiat, as well. Gasp!; I, know! Many, many, many parts are shared among all Italian cars of the 60s/70s, and well into the 80s, and beyond. More so in the 60s-80s era. All of the switch gear, various interior, wheels and mechanical parts are identical to various Fiat, Lancia & Alfa models. Many...most Ferrari owners try to avoid this reality, as they truly think they are bespoke and exclusive. Nope! They went slumming in the same grotty parts bin as their looked down upon cousins, did. They just pay more for a yellow box, that gets thrown out, anyway.

Not quite right. It was meant to be a budget model, not a Ferrari. Dino was to be the low cost brand. The engine is MADE BY FIAT!!

+94XJ The engine was made by Ferrari, everything else was made by Fiat who copied a real Ferrari called the 206 GT. Then the car was assembled at a Ferrari factory where along with the Dino 308 GT4 production of actual Ferraris was grinded to a halt for part of the 70's as Fiat wanted to push the Dino brand.
@1240enzo
@1240enzo 8 лет назад
Sorry mate but sadly your knowledge is a little suspect. Fiat actually made the 2.0 and 2.4L quad cam Dino V6 at the Lingotto plant in Turin. The Dino engine in both the original all ally 2.0L and later cast iron/alloy 2.4L were as you noted based on the original 206 Dino race car of the early '60s which Enzo's son (Dino) was involved in prior to his death. The Dino cars themselves were designed by Pinifarina and built at the Scaglietti (not sure of the spelling) plant before being shipped to Marenello and finished being assembled there. The Fiat Dino (spider) was also designed by Pininfarina while the coupe was designed by Bertone. Again the bodies were built elsewhere before being shipped to the Lingotto factory and finished being assembled there. The 308 GT4 replaced the Dino 246 and was a separate build and had nothing to do with the Fiat Dino. It actually came out after construction of the Fiat Dinos. It was designed and built at Bertone's factory. Ferrari providing the quadcam V8, mechanicals and trim for the car.

A Dino is NOT a Ferrari. It never came with Ferrari badging even though many unscrupulous people did place such on them, it's not titled as a Ferrari on the title, and it's just not a Ferrari. It's a Fiat with a 6-cylinder "Ferrari" engine which is the worst engine they ever built that's assembled in Maranello because Fiat which bullied Enzo into selling 50% of the company to them (80% by the 1980's then all of it on his death) to keep those pesky Americans from getting their hands on it wanted to build a "poor man's Ferrari."
@1240enzo
@1240enzo 8 лет назад
+3Storms See my comment above, sadly your knowledge of Ferrari is somewhat blinkered.
@3Storms
@3Storms 8 лет назад
David Mitchell Yet it's still true. If it's not then explain why the title doesn't say "Ferrari" on it.
@1240enzo
@1240enzo 8 лет назад
Because as I said, Enzo didn't want the name Ferrari on the car, given his belief that only V12 Ferrari's should be called Ferraris. Aside that, the Dino is 100% Ferrari and the afficianados recognize this today. Hence the price for Dinos is skyrocketing towards the $1m. There are two for sale here in Aus currently, 1 for nearly $600K and another one close to $800K.
@3Storms
@3Storms 8 лет назад
Not all Ferrari fans recognize it as a Ferrari. And it doesn't change the fact that it's not titled as a Ferrari. Maseratis are currently being built in Ferrari factories too; are they Ferraris?
@wclark3196
@wclark3196 6 лет назад
David Mitchell. Ahhhh, the afficianados. The same small-dicked, polo-shirt-wearing fartsuckers who slap Ferrari badges on Dinos because they're so insecure that they can't enjoy a great car for what it is, a Dino.
@manofweed1
@manofweed1 9 лет назад
There's far more powerful cars, but as an overall package, this must come near to the top of the most desirable car ever built, just look at it. Yet funny to think that when it was current, this was the cut down budget Ferrari to introduce more people into Ferrari ownership !!
