I'm really struggling to see how you think tracks in GT3-4 look better than Forza Motorsport. The example in the video is a detail-less Grand Valley s bend, then cuts to Fujimi with detailed trees with 3D trunks and branches, and more road detail despite the xbox footage appearing much lower quality (or maybe the youtube processing has more detail to process lol). I can agree that real world tracks didn’t appear realistic till FM3, but you cannot say Rio looks visually worse than something on GT3-4. I can see way more detail in a smaller area in Forza tracks than a wider area in GT tracks. Tokyo in Forza alone looks way better than the Special stage routes in GT3-4. I would be very interested to see if you have the same opinion with the game running on a 360 in 720p thanks to backwards compatibility. The footage in this video tells me that Forza wasn't even running at 480p for you, but even so the quality for Forza is clear to me.
I remember my dad brought me my first original Xbox for Christmas and this game came with the console in the box, that's how I first got addicted to Forza, I think the last motorsport I've owned was the second one until Forza horizon first came out, fun racing games
I will eventually as the aspect ratio in that video isn't right and my views on the game might change after replaying it for new gameplay footage, but it's not a priority at the moment.
Great review! :) Glad you're back man! They dropped a ball a little with visuals in first forza - tracks have good detail (i mean actual tree models etc.), but im most of them, things just don't fit together too well... Mostly lighting, but sam goes for color balance - it looks like work in progress. The Shipyard looks dope though. For me Forza was the game that actually taugh me how to drive in racing games (espacialy becase how agressively it reacts to braking and turning at once with turned off ABS), becase in GT it was so easy to just bump off track, and other cars. When i went back to GT after Forza, i could do any licences in any entry in a matter of one, bit longer session. I still thing it's a worthwhile title because of few unique tracks (and Forza 2 really, REALLY lacks tracks - while it's much better game overall), but considering it's only 30 fps, i get one some people decide to pass. It's kinda fascinating (i have the same thing with GT series), how different Forza 1 and 2 feels even in comparison to 3rd, and then 4th is also different, and so on - i'm talking about handling here. I just love to compare them, to race one race in one game, and then one in another and see how different, attepmts at representing driving, can feel. Like GT2/3/4/5 - they are simmilar at first glance, but when you know them well, you can then see how huge the difference actually is.
I'm revisiting all old Forzas from 1 to 4, doing level 1 to 20 and then moving to the next one. It's crazy to think I started in 2006 with Forza 1 and now there's 13 games from the franchise. I hope Forza 8 is good since 7 was such a dissapointment and it came out 5 years ago already.
Awesome, a new video. I did not get to experience this game till 2007 as I was busy playing Gran Turismo 4 and Enthusia at the time. Even though I had an OG Xbox, I was limited to getting only few games and Gran Turismo 4 was the go to racer. Forza Motorsport was a great first GT racer for the OG Xbox, but in never captured my interest till the third game in the series. PGR 2 is what I played most. It may be time to revisit FM as I do have memories of, despite not putting to much time in it. GT7 is starting to bore me right now.
