I had a question, sir: Our book says we date by finding the ratios of different isotopes of same element in it. Please tell what it exactly means?

By detecting the ratios of different isotopes of the same element in the fossil material. This method is known as carbon dating. Carbon dating is a method to estimate the age of carbon containing materials like trees. Carbon (C) has three naturally occurring isotopes. Both C-12 and C-13 are stable, but C-14 decay to nitrogen-14 with a half-life of approximately 5,730 years. Animals and plants naturally incorporate both the C-12 and C-14 during their lifetimes. When a creature dies, it ceases to consume more radiocarbon while the C-14 already in its body continues to decay back into nitrogen. With the help of C-12 to C-14 ratio, we can estimate the age of dead plants/ animals I found this online. hope it helps..

If someone at a museum tells you that a certain dinosaur lived 50 million years ago, they probably don’t work for the museum.

It seems to me like fossil dating will only work if you believe that everything stays consistent. Like climate, for example. What if large natural disasters occur? Will you average every years inputs the same? What about when tectonic plates shift? Will fossils lower automatically be older? It seems like such a stretch to think we know that the earth is billions of years old. That seems like a crazier thing to believe than creation lol

If I wear a coat that is 700 years old and die in it. Does this mean I'm 700 years old..... The rocks the bone is ingesting is older than the bone itself...
@ihtnarkkranthi
@ihtnarkkranthi 4 года назад
ur coat wont survive the test of time ..say after 1000 yrs..max they can recover is ur bones if they are lucky
@chrismf1407
@chrismf1407 3 года назад
Good question i did not think of that. I would think that it's not rocks replacing the bone but elements which will form rock in place of the bone. I'm speculating though.
@grasianofau8771
@grasianofau8771 3 года назад
Not as simple as that. Stoney matrix surrounds the fossils wasn't previously stoney matrix when the bones themselves weren't fossilizing yet because pecursory soft sediment surrounds the bones wasn't concreting yet into stoney matrix. The undisputed proof of this elaboration is the top curvature of stoney matrix next under the bottom of fossil always match with the bottom curvature of fossil next above the top of stoney matrix
@Pie3.1
@Pie3.1 3 года назад
@@grasianofau8771 Interesting take. can you then tell me the dating of the rocks that are old that are infused in the fossils are the same age as the bone?
@grasianofau8771
@grasianofau8771 3 года назад
@@Pie3.1 As long as both (fossils & infused stoney matrix) are contains the same residual radioisotopic pair (mother & daughter nuclides), both chronometric results are relative the same on the measured values because their uncertaities just slightly different. Then can you tell me actual case that those fossilized bones are dated much more younger than its surrounding stoney matrix if it still encapsulated inside its stoney matrix?

Sir where are other parts of this chapter like evolution by stages
@jimkay4900
@jimkay4900 2 года назад
This is a complete foolish way to determine the age of a fossil... There are so many variables that are not constant. For example, Is it possible that the lower fossil died after a higher placed one? Well yes, if there was deep hole made by another animal in that area, then yes it is plausible. Also, the fact that we are dating fossils by nearby stones, who is to say when those stones started transitioning 10000 years before the dinosaur fell and died next to it? These jumps to biased conclusions create something called theories, NOT FACTUAL OBSERVATIONS>. Therefore, this is not science, rather a mere story being told by scientist with a periodic table in hand.
