having just bought the fossil Carlyle HR gen 5 in stainless steel I can honestly say this is quite possibly the best wear os watch I've owned so far and looks gorgeous as hell.

Still using my Pebble watch. Functionality is awesome with Android. Battery life is still around a week.

I prefer WearOS but in it's current state and hardware options, I am sticking with Galaxy Watch until I see where the WearOS/Fitbit project goes. That said, I think the Fossil Gen 5 is the best WearOS watch to date but it is very hard to leave the battery life on the Galaxy Watch.

Its the review after using Day 5:- Pros:- Overall look is excellent & Stylish and elegant! Storage is sufficient and watch is fast. Beautiful watch faces. You can change and personalise watch faces. You can send , sms and whatsapp messages directly from the watch. You can use Google assistant anytime with click of button or saying "Ok Google" You can listen songs directly on watch using Google play music, spotify etc. You can use SBI wear app directly on this smartwatch and can transfer money while logging on the SBI wear application. In India, Google pay is not available on this watch, but it is available on US, Australia etc. You can install other applications like Google Fit, Cardiogram, Weather apps, Watch faces, Calculator, Notepads, RU-vid app, Google translate. You can change the notification preferences. You can change the straps. Cons:- Connectivity problem (sometimes). This watch is not meant for calling yet. You are able to receive calls and make calls via this smartwatch but sound of the other person is not clearly audible to you. Speaker makes cracking sound while taking calls. Please be aware on this. 1) battery life :: enabled Bluetooth ONLY ( no watch GPS) and running apps (Google fit) only last for 5 hours. 2. Standalone GPS :: No GPS signal for watch ONLY. ( After disable phone Bluetooth ). ( Watch connectivity ->GPS is enabled ). 3. After sales service :: I raise the issue to a few channel ( Facebook fossil, Twitter fossil, international fossil support and Malaysia fossil ). After a month still no get and help from them. Their support(Facebook and Twitter ) only replied once. While customer service is just keep pushing to another guy ( say another team to handle, he.she should raise my ticket directly to another team, and not asks me write in separate email to look for help)

My Galaxy watch with everything turned on bar Always On Display. I get about 4 days battery, so the 1 day is a big no no for me.

Bit late to the party. But I’m asking advice , I want a smart watch , I’ve never owned one. Hubby currently has an Apple smart watch but they Ugly af. I’m torn with this or the garmin. I assumed they all did what the Apple Watch does then after watching 1000’s of reviews I figured out they don’t 😭😭😭😭 I have an iPhone and I workout . Not a fitness fanatic but I still like a work out 4 times a week. I love the look of this gen 5 or the garmin Vivo. BUT my question is , is there any point getting these watches when nearly everyone is saying wear OS is crap, and lags on opening up. Plus I want to be able to answer my phone and read my iMessages when they come through . Any input would be appreciated xx ( I need it to last 12 hours )

got mine for 199. and my gen 4 was way obsolete. and i did had the galaxy watch , but for some reason, mine kept on losing bt connection constantly and even if it did connect,its only connected for about 5 mins. so i took it back.

With you there until 'Withings has all of the SmartWatch functionality built in' - Absolutely not. It's great and your review helped me decide, but it is only one way (phone to watch), limited information and more importantly, if you miss the message/notification, there is no way to recall it on the watch. And not all apps (eg Spotify). The Steel is my go to watch for formal stuff or holidays/breaks when I don't want to mess about with chargers but Huawei Watch 1 is on my wrist most of the time (and it's still the best out there).

Upgraded to Galaxy watch and i think over the gen 5 its better because of 4-5 day battery,most basic functions,tons of faces,workouts and notification everything it handles like a champ and i dont think i need to fiddle (gen 5) with my watch so much that i keep bugging the watch with some apps vch my smartphone can already do.

Dude, I Agree with You Fossil 5G Is way Better then Galaxy Active 2, I purchased Galaxy Active 2 Lte and the Sound quality from the Samsung Active 2 sounds crackly compare to Fossil 5G, And I think Google Wear OS is way better than SAMSUNG Active 2 software, my only draw back if Fossil is the Battery Life and lack of LTE,

The Fossil Gen 5 watch has issues with GPS, it will not connect unless you are connected to your phone. The build in GPS does not work, Google it and you will find forum threads on this I don't know why none of the reviewers mention this You cannot connect to GPS unless you have your phone with you, which makes the build in GPS useless

Anyone having issues with the quiet repeated 'ticking' sound coming from the speaker? Really quite annoying if in a quiet environment. Not sure whether to send back or wait (hopefully?) for a fix. Agree with all the points in the review. Great vid

3 Atm is not okay for Scuba. Infact 10atm is not recommended for Scuba. This watch is okay in light rain, hand washing etc. It is not designed to be submerged. 5 Atm is the minimum for swimming.

This watch is only $139.00 on amazon right now, down from $295....is that worth it? Currently have a fitbit versa 2 and freaking love it! In the market for either a samsung powered watch (a bit expensive atm) or a google wear os powered one.

Having owned the Samsung Gear S2, S3 and the current Galaxy Watch (plus the Galaxy Gear Sport) along with a slew of other Wear OS devices starting with the original Moto 360 up til the Fossil Gen 4 I can say without any hesitation that Samsung's Tizen OS is hands down better in almost every possible way. Notifications are better with Wear OS, I can't deny that but what ruined Wear OS for me was simply put, the operating system was laggy and glitchy so much that it interfered with just every aspect of using the OS. Sure you'll find way more apps on Wear OS, but what is the point if the dang thing takes forever to open an app, or it cannot run it smoothly (consistently) each time you use it? I hear good things about Gen 5 (that additional RAM makes a gigantic difference), and maybe I'll try yet again, but at this point, I'm absolutely a die-hard Tizen fan. Stable. Fast. No hiccups and consistency puts it head and shoulders over all Wear OS devices I've ever used.

Okay I'm glad I went with the Galaxy Watch. WearOS needs work. I've used both with and without Samsung phones. Tizen is just simply... better... despite some proprietary setbacks... However there's ways around them (eg. No messages app unless using a Sammy device... Solution: Watchface with shortcuts to txt msgs)

How many days will the watch last if i use it only as a watch? That is all I do with my smatwatches excet when I am out traiing that I explicitly activate monitoring.

I have the same one that you reviewed! I really like but yes I do agree battery life is not that great. Another issue I had was terrible sound quality when taking phone calls. Fossil has acknowledged it and is currently working on a software fix so i'm hoping thats out soon. Otherwise it's a great bit of tech.

Is this watch still work it as we're nearing the end of 2021? The Fossil in the divers style with aluminium case and strap is amazing - but they don't do the GEN6 in that style...

I hate these dead display screens. Have a withings and get 3 weeks on a battery and just got the zetime with physical hands and led screen combined and lasts longer than these dead displays. They have poor battery life and having to turn the watch on just to see the time is crap. I love the physical hands as you can see the time without the need to turn it on so saving on a lot of power. I dont know why they are not using the same sort of display like the Garmin Fenix 5 series. They have always on displays and even battery life is much better than those dead displays. When quartz watches first came out had dead displays and LEDs would tell the time and not popular at that time due to poor battery life. The liquid crystal watches came out with great battery life. This is tech they could use also. Why are we still using dead screens beats me? The current battery tech is no good or hd OLED or hd screens. Think the withings is the nearest perfect smart watch out there. Only thing is poor display. Have a look at the zetime? A perfect blend of hands and good bright display combined. It's very unique and they have accually got a hole through the led screen for the physical hands and can select different watch styles. Sure it's not perfect but getting better and a little slow when it comes to swiping menus. But its wonderfully built with saffire glass. There are very few real hybrid smart watches out there which is a shame others dont copy what withings has done but a better OLED screen? Seems zetime have? I get all my notifications also on zetime. Think it's the best looking most unique smart watch out there.

Great review, but I'll be sticking with my Galaxy. At the end of the day, all watches in this price range are much of a muchness and it's down to personal preference. Calisthenics BTW, exercise with minimal equipment and mostly bodyweight exercises. Pull-ups, Burpees, planks etc. 👍

I have the galaxy watch and I can say everything works on it except Samsung's bixby and samsung pay and I wish it had Google assistant

My issue with the Gen 4 was unreliable Google Assistant functions. For instance, reminders set for a certain time would be 5 to 20min late, and some simply never came through with vibration or visual. Hope this has been fixed somehow?

I love my gen 5 fossil. Battery life gets me throughout the day, usually have around 70% left each night. I only use my watch for checking the time throughout the day, music controls and notifications (I text a lot). But yeah, the crack between the screen and the bezel is a dust magnet for sure.

Heard bad things about fossil qc, back part would peeled off (bad glue maybe) often happen with gen 4, hard to see in direct sunlight, suck battery life but that thin design and quick charge justify it for me. Can't wait for mine to arrive
