Mioplosus labracoides is believed to have been a voracious predator among the Green River fish fossils. Failure to find its numbers in mass mortality leads to further conjecture that it was a solitary hunter. A member of the Family Percidae, it has numerous relatives in Northern Hemisphere fresh water. It is known as a predatory species as determined from its many pointed teeth, and the fact that several have been found with fish lodged in its throat.
Distinguishing features include double dorsal fins and a fan-like tail. Mioplosus is uncommon in the Green River formation.

Thanks for this, man. I just returned from Kemmerer with my own Mioplosus. According to the guide it should be twice the size of yours. I started on the spine and went down at least 4mm and didn't hit bone yet. So, like yourself, I thought I had a dud. I had become a little depressed. But I see you have gone at least as deep. So now I'm encouraged. Showing me the shape I might expect has also given me some confidence as well. Thanks for this.

Came out great considering you wanted a scrap piece to work on initially. I appreciate your patience working on it.

thanks. I recently upgraded my micro blaster to dolomite powder, so I need to hit it again. I think it will take the last haze of matrix off

Good luck! I think all prep is fun, but some fossils are much more challenging than others.

Make a prep box! Appropriate screening is essential to retrieve needed pieces and parts which "have left the (p)reservation". lol a digger

There's a guy that gets balls with crabs in them. Have you contacted him for a few items? I think he's in New Zealand. Unsure if he uses the same tool but looks like it. Mamlambo fossils if i recall

@@TheFossilFiend Ask him... as a collaboration on a few videos... that would help you and him because you also post shared info. Other channels i watch do similar things too... why not. Just ask. You can trade off items from the USA too if you have anything.
