In this long video, I share my thoughts on the FotoPro Eagle E7 tripod and gimbal head combination. I also discuss some of the ways I use this in combination with my Nikon D850 and 500mm PF lens. Then I compare and contrast this tripod to the Really Right Stuff TVC-3X, as well as share some thoughts new tripod buyers might want to consider. The video wraps up with a short segment where I test this new tripod and head in making a pano, which I had printed 10' x 2'.
I put timestamps below so hopefully you can move more quickly to something that might be useful to you (again, I realize this is a crazy long video - just wanted to share as much information as I could about using this new tripod). I appreciate your comments (I'm open to learning better ways to do things, so if you have suggestions, please don't hesitate). I'm also happy to answer any related questions. Hi, thanks for the review. I noted that you were balancing the lens on the cradle of the Fotopro Eagle E7 gimbal. It doesn't balance well due to the limited vertical height adjustment. However, similar to the Wimberley sidekick, might be you can try installing the camera/lens on the E7 gimbal as a side mount. In this way, the lens c.g. will be better aligned vertically

A super point! Without adding an extension 'plate' - which would be an easy add, it does work pretty well for elevated subjects (such as BIF, birds in trees, etc.) with the arm rocked back. In that way, the camera body doesn't make contact with the tripod base for quite a bit. Conversely, if you need to shoot downhill (such as at the water, etc.), you can rock the arm forward to allow maximum movement of the camera downward. Level works too for level and limited angle shots. Very good idea that I've no idea why I didn't try. I used to use the Sidekick all the time - just slipped my mind! Thank you much.

One thing a fluid head doesn't work for, where something like the Fotopro head works for is multi-row panoramas without parallax.

Thanks for the video. Although I’m curious as to how tall you are? It helps to put the tripod height into perspective. Also, what are your thoughts on the E-6L? It’s basically the same height as the E-7 but has another section so it collapses smaller.

thank you so much for this comprehensive review!! Lots of other good ideas and uses! After having the Fotopro now for a while, are you still happy with it? I am looking for a good allrounder for birds, nature macro, landscape, possibly a bit of night sky.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a fotopro E6L tripod that comes with the gimbal head, but I had a question for you first. Is the gimbal head removable in order to put a fluid head or low profile ball head on it, too? Just not sure I want to spend $1K on a one-trick pony.

Absolutely. The gimbal head just threads on like any other head. I’ve changed the head out various times to a fluid head, wimberley head, etc.
