I had the pleasure of exploring a 40 year old collection of Rare Mustangs I ran across. The 85 year old man was not only generous but full of great stories and even allowed me to make an offer on a Fastback.
You don't want to miss this episode of Lost and Found Classics. There's a few really RARE Mustangs on the property we will explore towards the end of the video. I think you'll have a good time and feel my own excitement as you watch.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THIS MUSTANG video: Several questions have been asked and a lot of statements made. I'd like to clarify everything here. 1) None of the other cars are for sale that you see in the video. 2) The owner does not want to even talk about selling the other cars. 3) The owner does not for any reason want his location revealed. 4) The owner has already told his kids and grandkids which cars they get when he passes. 5) I paid an EXTREME amount of money for the 67 Fastback. The price was right for me but far from a deal. 6) These cars were not listed for sale, I came across them while traveling. 7) I do not have any interest in selling the 67 Fastback to Dennis Collins as some have suggested, nothing against Dennis, but that's not why I bought the car. A) Many have stated the 67 Fastback is too far gone as are the rest of the cars. According to the owner, these cars have been moved around the yard through the years to keep them from having moisture under them. And shockingly, the cars are indeed very rust free and he has been tending too them this whole time. B) Many have said the 67 requires too much money to restore. Note: I am a certified PPG painter, welder, fabricator, and restoration expert. I have restored classic cars for over 25 years. I also worked for Summit Racing Equipment for a little over 9 years. Because I do not need to pay a shop for the restoration, the car will only cost me parts and time making it very restorable and still profitable if I sold it. I realize what shop rates are these days and if I had to take it to a shop I would not have ever paid as much as I did for the car. Thank you all for subscribing, joining the adventure, and bringing your thoughts and experiences into the comment section. It's a pleasure reading all of your stories and advice. I hope this helps answer any questions.

That's the way it was back then, never considering what we gave away. I have a long list, beginning with a used 1965 Mustang 289 4-speed convertible in 1968, followed by a 1968 Corvette convertible 427 4-sp back in 1969. The only car I regret selling after getting married the first time was my Vels Parnelli Jones purchased 1970 Yellow Boss 302. I even attempted to track the car down but was unable.

Your story reminds me of my own youth! (I'm in my eighties now, so it has been a minute! My first car was a 1956 Thunderbird, which was four years old at the time. Great chick magnet, but a bit tight, however it had a bench seat. Seated three semi comfortably, and worked out for double dates. Nothing too special at the time, 312 with automatic, PS and PW. Then in 1965 I was making pretty good money for the time, and bought a Mustang GT coupe. It would have been a K code, with four speed and limited slip. I believe it came with 3.80:1 gears, but it was longer ago than yesterday! Traded it in on a new candy apple red 1967 convertible, with the 390 engine, four speed and 3.25:1 DAPCO diff in a 9". 3.00:1 and 3.25:1 were the only ratios available, unless you bought the drag pack. It did have power top, front disk brakes and manual steering, which I should not have ordered it with! Very front heavy. Traded it in on a plain white Falcon Sprint in 1969, after all the constabulary knew me by my exhaust note. Then in 1973 I had notice of another '67 available for sale by a friend's girl friend for $100 cash. Never even went to look at it! It was in the awful pea soup green popular at the time ,pretty plain jane, 289 2bbl C4 automatic, and 2.80 something 8" rear. Body was in fantastic shape, being a Southern car, and had (non-working) factory air. Also had a pronounced miss due to a stuck valve. After accumulating some money, I pulled the engine and trans out, and began a tribute construction. Scored a 390 4 barrel at my local junk yard, from a clapped out Mercury wagon, but the engine was sweet! I installed it in the Mustang with all factory parts, (which were current stock at the time) and became first name friends with the parts man at the local dealer. Replaced everything that was different, from the front springs to the motor mounts and the exhaust H pipe. Installed it at first with the C6 from the mercury, using the 8" rear. Later on, I changed it over to the 10 bolt top loader four speed, and a limited slip...still an 8" but beggars can't be choosers. Last I heard, it was still terrorizing a town some miles away. By the way, the stock 390 in the S code Mustangs had chrome valve covers and air cleaner lid. They were off the shelf items. I went through the engine when I bought it, and it appeared to be recently rebuilt, .040" over, .010" under on the rods and mains. 'nuff said! Since that time, I got married, bought a new 1975 E--150 for a service van, then my next new Ford was a 1986 Ranger 4x4 then bought new Ford cars and trucks, one or the other every year, starting in 1992. Now, I have an F-250, a Focus and a 03 T-Bird (Hangar queen) Hopefully, someone enjoyed the story while I reminisced! By the way, I was an Industrial Electrician, not a real mechanic.

The restored value is $60,000-$75,000 I'm a certified PPG painter, welder, fabricator, and resotration expert so I don't have to pay a shop for the work, I can do it all myself. Nice find and welcome to the S-Code family! I've got a 67 coupe, GT, S-Code, 3 speed, center console, AM radio, deluxe seat belts Mustang. One of only like 525 coupes built with the 390, 3-speed combo. Originally Burnt Amber Metallic with the Parchment interior. Still building it. Looks like some put some fatty flares on the front and rear of your fastback, must have been pretty sweet in its day. Hope you can get it going again. She needs a lot of work. But all those parts are available.

Oh and I don't think that 70 was a Mach 1. Its missing the scoops in the quarter panels, which I thought all Mach 1s had in 69 & 70.
@LostandFoundClassics
@LostandFoundClassics 2 месяца назад
Hey therey @GiletheCarGuy That's awesome to hear about your coupe. I've ran across a couple of S code coupes through the years but never a 3 speed. Fortunately, the Fastback doesn't have any fender flares and the body is rock solid other than the front floor pans. The 1970 actually was a Mach1, the side scoops only appeared in 1969 and was standard for the 1969 Fastback. The only 1970 Fastback to have a scoop was the Shelby models. The only fastbacks in 1969 that did not receive a scoop was the Boss 302 and Boss 429

The 390 that he gave you is a early 390 ('65 or old). About the only parts you can use for this Mustang is the block, and you'll need to adapt the 2 bolt motor mounts to the later style (not hard). But the whole top end won't work. Still, great project!
