Renee, you just saved from the landfill items that are so desirable and used often in that rusty, chippy farmhouse look! They won’t make you rich by any means, repurposed they will make someone else very happy. Good finds!

Wish I could have taken it all, as I know there was a decent amount of scrap as well as some rusted items probably could sell at the flea market. But, I'm happy with what I did take, especially the suitcase (which I love!) and the Vietnam military bag.

Barry Lonyai I hope I interpreted your comment correctly. I totally agree that we are a wasteful society. We have to find many more ways to recycle, reuse, and repurpose things or we will leave this world a total garbage dump for future generations. It has to start sometime, even if it is small steps at a time. The entire planet Earth populations have to make changes, right now!

the black clamps that said corningware, or corelle, were for an old line that Corning had, where you could use the casserole dish as a stovetop pan, by clamping that handle onto the dish. You probably already knew that, but I grew up in Corning, so legally I have to talk about all things glass, or they kill me, LMAO!😄😄😄

Hi Renee, the metal box is a customer safety deposit box from a casino cage. As far as the musty odors from the suitcase, try putting several fabric softener sheets inside and closing it up for a coupla days. Hope this helps! :)

Thank you Joyce. I find that often at auctions and other sales, many people are blinded by the idea of how much money they can make on something and they miss out on other qualities of the item. Hiya Renee, don’t cut off the tags or put the duffle bag in the washer. Get a big jug of white vinegar & wipe the entire piece including the inside & lightly over the tags. It’ll work on the suitcase as well! Hydrogen peroxide will get out the stains inside the suitcase. Good luck & have a lovely week! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️

Great find on the duffle bag, I wished I still had mine from my stint in the army, keep the tags on the bag. wrap in saran wrap, then stick into a baggie and seal it up, HOSE it down outside then let air dry. Air that cute little suitcase outside opened (like on your porch) for several days, should remove any smells.

Hello Renee! After hearing Taco Stacks refer to you several times in his vids I decided to check out your channel and randomly picked this video for my first. I love the way you look at vintage finds and feel the same way about repurposing items. Modern stuff just isn't the same in so many ways as good quality vintage item, and the wonderful patina's of items of old just can't be beat. I myself would not plop a fan in my livingroom just for looks as I'm more about items being or rebecoming useful, but that's just me. I'd be the one tearing it apart and rebuilding or replacing the motor and cordage, adding barrier to the grates to make it pet friendly, and putting it back to work. I love rebuilding, restoring, repurposing, and most of all keeping beautiful old things out of the dump....whether it be an old doll, a stunning old piece of jewelry, a beautiful old piece of furniture, or an old table fan. I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing what comes along next and will definitely be checking out all your other content. Thank you for sharing your vintage loving journey with all of us. :o)

Thank you for stopping by and glad that you enjoy the channel! I'd love to explore more of the repurposing and restoring aspect, but my full time job gets in the way of many things (I will say this a lot haha). I'm hoping to eventually have more time to do the other things that interest me/that i want to learn more about. Until then, I do what I can with what I have and try to find homes for the other items I know I won't have time to get to or have room for. My videos will be coming out a little less frequent over the next week due to traveling, but I normally try to post 3-4 times a week. Thank you again for watching!

Oh dear god, just don't do anything to the bag!, the dirt & marks on it are the history of it, they make it wat it is, & you could be a little gentler with the tags!. I was cringing & shouting at my phone while watching you man handle the tags like they were just something from the dry cleaners!, & wen u mentioned cutting them off I was nearly in tears!, just put it down in a safe place & step away, leave it be!. Sorry to be so abrupt, but that bag contained someone's whole life while it was in use & it didn't come back in one piece just for you to stick in the washing machine and destroy it!

The tin is a standard safe deposit box, so you would put your valuables in it and hand it in at the bank or hotel, and the clerk and you would each have a key and together you would lock it in the safe or vault, and to remove it it needed 2 keys to open it - yours and the hotel or banks. The black metal rack with the V shaped shelves on the bottom and flat top was for library books. They were put in the bottom racks and the top held plants, pamphlet , current reading materials etc. Lay the books on their sides as straight up will slip thru the spaces. I would recommend selling the wooden handled record rack as it is in better shape. I'd clean the rust off the other bigger one and use that to display ephemera. BTW: all the gyms and stores are closed here. Take out foods only and grocery stores at reduced times and with lots of empty shelves that look as if there will be no products for a long time. There are lines to get in with personal spaces marked on the concrete and a limit to how many customers are allowed in at any one time.

I'm 73 and have had a huge interest in interior design all my life so I'm familiar with most things you find. Although I'm not an expert, I believe rust is still popular and the doorknob and lock mechanisms may sell. Don't scrap. Rust can be sanded a bit and coated to preserve the look. But then maybe PA buyers are just sick of old rusty stuff. The flat graters I would use as is, but the 4-sided grater looks like scrap to me. I've had one since the 80's. Take a look at Black Dog Salvage TV show and of course, Joanna Gaines for inspiration. I envision the wood finial (as well as the rust) on a coffee table or bookshelves. I could have never left that red step stool. After some clean-up, at worst it could be used on a covered patio as a plant stand. Sadly, I've been in Orange Co CA for decades and I have never seen such a beautiful mound of 'trash' as what is found in PA!

The duffle bag is a history piece. I don't know how to clean it, but maybe get a brush to get the dirt and big junk off. If it's washed would it fade? Better dirty than damaged. The shoe things are called shoe trees, not sure why, but they are. The handle is for Corning casserole dishes. The kids jigsaw, yes, someone would probably grab that at the flea market. There are old tool collectors, uh-hum, like me, 😂. I have a child’s miter box with saw. I think that mirror is Bakelite! What a find! Love that small suitcase and the old wire whisk. I could go on, but that’s all. So glad you rescued those things! Please keep up the good work...😊👍🏻. You have a great weekend! Ok, I lied, I’m back, lol. About things that need cleaning and have smells...most dry cleaners have an ozone room. It is usually used for getting smells out of clothing that is salvageable after a house fire. They clean the item and then put it in the ozone room for about a week and it comes out fresh and clean. I used to work at a dry cleaning place.

My father in law passed 30+ yrs ago and we have a building, we are now determined to get cleaned out.... My husband really had sentimental attachments to all of it and refused to start a cleaning process.... He however passed a couple yrs ago.... Now it is time to let go of " stuff".... so my youngest and I are tackling it....slowly... LOL It is amazing to find galvanized items in mint condition... as you mainly see them all dented and rusted... Vintage toys that my husband kept from his childhood.... I wish they had written names and dates of those in pictures... Old books with pictures in the pages....that his mother had....Vintage jewelry, sterling dinnerware all packed away in boxes that have seen better days..... Found a huge old carpenters chest with lift out wooden drawers filled with mainly rusty tools .... jars of silver coins... I think the best find so far, is a mint in box, brass tire gauge... best I can find online is either Model A or Model T.........We have found collectors for most of it... flea market a lot.... and my son has saved some....We pile metal and call local scrappers to pick up... Like you, I refuse to drive my suv in a scrap yard ... Prior to my father in law dying he had gone in the hospital and I wanted to surprise him by cleaning his room.... He pack ratted everything... He had local tel books by the hundreds..... I thought was junk.... so threw out.... While at the hospital I told him about our surprise... I will never forget how loud he screamed "there was money in those books"....: hundred dollar bills " !!!! Luckily all the trash bags were still there waiting by the mailbox.... That night we opened every bag on the curb... and removed all the tel books and yes inside them were hundred dollar bills....... We now search every page of any books :)

Wish I was at the flea market you sold the items at, sounds like your father in law and husband had good eyes!

This looks like someone cleaned out my basement. Cosco chair? Check. Three tier cart? Check. Rusty old saw? Check. Even have those graters. In different sizes. They were my grandmothers. They fit over a dish or loaf pan.

It’s a hotel room safe. They are usually bolted to the floor of the closet to lock your valuables in while you are away from your room.

Those old drawers can be hung on the wall and used as shelves. Attach the bottom side of the drawer too the wall and the sides will make shelves. With the front of the drawer and the knobs showing it makes a cool way to display antiques . Greats finds!

Hahaha, Renee you are a true "Junker". I love it! You did though leave a few items that should be at your home! As I see it, you probably maybe should have, knocked on the door and complimented and thanked those folks for the cool items and maybe by chance do you have more you might be throwing out??? I have a couple items to send your way. Thanks for your channel.

Your smelly suitcase is a traveling bar, the stains and smells are probably spilled booze and part of the story. If you can attach some genealogy to it, it should sell for big bucks. May want to get the duffel bag “restored” professionally, could be a museum piece...bonus if you have the name. Awesome job saving genealogy and history!

The suitcase has initials embossed on it, by the handle. Same initials of the person whose name is written inside the basket. Love it when they make my research a bit easier!

I don't think it's a bar. I think it's a lady's traveling case w/ places and straps for specific 'beauty accessories'.

@@eba44 I think the mirror was part of the set held by the bands in the top of the suit case. Then they had room for a night gown, robe and other items. Don't worry about the staining, just brush it out well. That will keep it's price nicely.

It sells really well. Blue Bus Dave was just sorting a bunch of his (amazing collection) and he has some fabulous pieces. Worth money too.

I thought I was the only one who kept screwdrivers in their car, my family makes fun of me. I also buy umbrellas and put them in the trunk in the netting by the front because I always see people out in the rain without one. I just pop the trunk and tell them to grab one or if it is already raining I put them in the passenger seat and give them to people at the bus stop that does not have a cover over it, or someone walking their dog. Believe me I give away lots of umbrellas, but I just pick them up at garage sells or Goodwill or find them in curb boxes

Hi Renee! I suspect that mirror might go with the suitcase-vanity type items go in those elastic(?) loops. As for smell- I have used newspaper wadded up and left inside, charcoal in a dish inside, and recently had some paper that had that icky mildew smell. I tried my usual methods, nope. I finally bought a box of dryer sheets and a container of those sprinkle fresheners (Unstoppables). I took quart ziploc bags, put a bunch of the sprinkle stuff in the bad, then jabbed a bunch of holes in it with an ice pick (which had the added benefit of being very therapeutic). I put the stabbed bags in various places, and added a few dryer sheets. I put it all in a plastic tub with lid, and after a couple of weeks, checked on it, shifted stuff around, resealed. Took about 6 weeks. Make sure if you try this you use decent smelling stuff-I used a cheaper brand and didn’t care for the smell, but the mildew smell was gone. You will likely have to replace the liner; and it looks like a cardboard suitcase, so I’d put the stuff inside it after you remove the lining, and put the suitcase in a plastic tub and put the lid on it, and leave it for a while. Hope this helps! -Beth

I think that white thing was the top of a banister. My grandmother had one similar on the banister at the foot of the stairs. The record holders were popular in the 50s. I had one. They may be recyclables soon with the 33 records making a comeback!! Everything comes back!! You really hit a treasure trove of goodies!! Good for you!! It's so much fun to watch you go through your treasure finds.

The box looks like a safety deposit box. A lot of hotels had those for guests before they started installing safes in rooms.

Getting rid of the smell has several solutions. The best thing I have found is Odo-be gone. Since you don't want to ruin the inside I would recommend spraying a cloth and going over the inside closing the lid and coming back to repeat as needed until the smell is gone. We have gotten the smell of cat urine out of a chest and the smell of 25 years of two people smoking of of a vinyl floor. For trash picking having the Odo-begone is a must have. Putting crumpled newspapers in will help. Shaking baking soda and letting it absorb all it can then repeating as many times as needed. Crushing celery be twisting it and laying it on a non-porous surface then in the suitcase. Of course closing the suitcase with all of these.

I think that Ceasars Palace silver box was to keep valuables in but not sure. I could not find anything like it on the computer. I found a black one that kind of looked similar and it said it was a donation box. Anyway Good Luck.

I would use Dawn and a scrub brush and then hose it off with hose or power washer. You could break your washer trying to clean something so thick and heavy. Would like to know how it turns out.
