Do you shoe your own horses? How do get them to come back? Play on words, I'm joking Seriously other then the heat outside that looks fun. Not much exp on a horse and I'm close to your age. But getting out on a trail looks fun. 2 places id like to do that Arcadia National park in Mine and black hills south Dakota. Oh dont forget yellow stone national park.

I enjoyed your video and planned to subscribe until the end when you felt like you had to insert your personal politics into it. I watch videos like this to escape and see the outdoors when I can't get out there myself. I didn't come looking for Maga cult nonsense. The majority of this country is interested in democracy not a wannabe authoritarian criminal. You just lost one subscriber and remember there's 87 million more of us. Remember who wants to protect the land you enjoy so much (instead of selling it to oil companies) next time you step in a voting booth.

It is called wanderlust which basically means the strong desire to explore to travel to the unfamiliar. I have it too. It is what us humans have done from day one. I rather be lost on a country back road than have all the amenities in an apartment downtown.

As you know, the Gila Wilderness area was created in 1924. Looking at the cabin via your video the cabin is older, possibly 1900 to 1920. The linoleum on the floor in the cabin dates to late 1960s to mid 1970s. I'm sure you could go to the county seat and with the long/lat coordinates find out if it was a mining claim or a homestead. Anyway, great video! I always enjoy the ride along!

Arabs are sure footed, hard hoofed and the best long distance stamina horses, I've worked throughout the years with many notable Arabian stallions, wasn't it difficult if someone around you had a mare in heat?

I have a straight Egyptian gelding. They just go and go and go. And they usually walk out quickly. Hard to ride with the 'Quarter-type' breeds.

@@bethewalt7385 Depends on the training. The Arab that sired my first 1/2 Arabian would turn his head away from a mare tha was 'flirting' with him on a trail ride or wherever. You just never let them 'act up' when wearing any tack except the breeding halter.

It's like riding a bicycle. Your body & soul never truly forget. I agree with Evelyn though; It takes the hips, groin & glutes time to get accustomed to it again. It's been many years for me since I've ridden a horse but by God did I love it. I'll never forget my first time with a gelding named Bartender. Once I checked his hooves, saddled up & we got acquainted we had a blast going through the paces on the trails, doubling back to check on the stragglers & galloping up to the front of the group where the teachers were with unhorsed students leading their mounts along because they couldn't get used to riding. That always made no sense to me; How could you NOT get used to it? It really is like the melding of the heart & mind of a horse & human. Once we got back to where the horses had been lined up for us to choose, I got help with unsaddling him & then brushed him down while talking to him. Since the stragglers were still busy with what they were doing I led him out to the field a bit & we played what I could only describe as a strange game of chase & tag. Everyone thought that I must have had a lot of experience with horses with how things came off but the truth is that I'd only ever touched a horse before that at the fair grounds. I was only a sixth grader & had never gotten the opportunity to ride before that. One of the old ranch hands commented that Bartender seemed really spirited & was acting half his age with me there. He said that they see horses perk up like that from time to time when a rider comes around that they become fond of but seldom to that extent. I was just happy to know that Bartender was having as much fun as I was! I never got the chance to see Bartender again & I only went riding a couple of other times in my life at different places. I'm now pushing 50 & I've gotten a bit wide around the middle since then. If I wanted to ride today I'd probably have to find me a Belgian or a Clydesdale to carry my heavy butt! lol

Thanks Brett taking us this excursion. Bonnie & Clyde are in some beautiful country probably doesn’t appreciate this just getting outside. As for Clyde I don’t know miles but if I remember my time riding, horses want to be ahead, just like Clyde’s trying. You found place, how old? I bet ok once.-Kid Yuma

My APHA filly wasn't conscious of the terrain regarding her feet and would trip. I touched her hooves at home - said 'feet' and gave her a pellet, then I'd make her step over items while saying 'feet' and give her a pellet. On the trail, I'd take her over rocky areas or over logs and say 'feet'. Now she looks down at the trail when I say 'feet' and places her hooves carefully so she won't trip or slide. Soon she won't need me to remind her, as it is becoming a habit on the rough, steep trails to be aware and slow down.

@@BrettVaughnB100 Mules are so hardy and seem to be more feet-conscious. Horses raised on the flat have SO much to learn! I wonder if I should get a mule to hang out with my filly, then take them out together, one packing and one being ridden. I train horses but have never had a Mule to train, it would be a blast. LOVE your videos and campouts. Wish we could go on a week campout with a group led by you, your dogs, and two mules, Bonnie and Clyde.THANKS ~

Fascinating bit of exploring. I located the cabin on Google Earth Pro and was surprised to see it is just a ways south of where I still have family in the area of Winston and Chloride. Beautiful mountains down that part of New Mexico, rugged too. Sure must be a pleasure to be able to wander that back country.

I find it amazing the way you can read your animals and know what’s going on with them. I guess you have done it all your life. Not too many people nowadays can do that. I do appreciate your videos and I learn a lot of your country where you travel, thanks!

I believe that reading critters is a knack you're born with... or not. Have tried teaching many people how, but they either get it right away or never do. If you do have the knack, you still need to do it a lot to get really good at it. That's my thoughts on it anyways. God Bless!

Born in NY City. Moved in steps, east to Long Island. We think that we live in the country. LOL! You, my new friend, are blessed to have the old and the new, in the palm of your hands. You have a grasp on things around you. Here, people run away when they see a bee. You, are knowledgeable enough to know that there could be a rattler under the downed tree but comfortable with knowing that the dogs would pick up a scent if there was one. Having survival knowledge along with tech to create a truly enjoyable piece of video. Will subscribe and watch for more. Poppy

You didn't miss a thing while you were gone. You did however, have a restful day with your mules & dogs. What you gained far out weighs anything going on anywhere except at your house, maybe. I used to ride a lot (40+yrs. ago) & hunt, too. Now, I'm not even in a small town. Too old, they say, to do that anymore. So here I sit, watching you, wishing I could, trying to plan how I can. With so many saying "you can't", I am reminded of those times long ago, when I did. To prove it could be done, & I was the girl that could do it. Keep on riding, friend. ❤
