What a fun adventure! Those ducklings are sooo cute. They’re working so hard to keep up with momma duck. Nice to see Nelly asking for a belly rub and the beautiful Daisy too. How cool is that to have a family of foxes visit your garden(?) and share kibble with a hedgehog 😊 That Sean is a cutie. Looking forward to next week’s treasure hunt.

That utilized flake… Amazing. I’m an archaeologist in Canada and the earliest lithics we find are 10,000 years BP. Incredible if that was made so long ago, I am interested to know if those flakes are so distinctive that they can be distinguished from later utilized/retouched flakes.

Hi Lauren... That is so cool that you have 10,000 year old lithics in America.. I'm sure that date will be pushed back further as techniques advance. Yes we can confidently date the flake by the way it has been removed from the core. Levallois technique was a technique used by the Neanderthals to prepare a core in a specific way. Often but not always centripetal removals from the core, before striking the flake they intended to use as a point or a cutting flake/scraper. The striking platform moves around the piece and is often prepared before each flake is removed. The glacial (Ice Age) patina on this piece also shows it's age. So we can confidently say it is a middle Palaeolithic flake struck by a Neanderthal long before Homo Sapiens walked this land.. Kindest regards, Sean.

@@seanwatcham8308 ah yes my undergrad lithic analysis class is coming back to me regarding the Levallois cores. they were always quite distinct to recognize. Thanks for the response! Yes especially on the coast of BC those dates are being pushed back, however glaciation of the province means a lot of the area was inhabitable during the ice age. Once we hit glacial till we know we are likely done our tests.

That owl is one of the most epic things you have ever made. I love it. One of the reasons why I wish I could mudlark here in the US is I love making things from found objects. But definitely more so from old ornate found objects than modern junk. Someday!

I love seeing nature in your videos and today was great because you had little ducklings and mama, you had two beautiful swans, Nellie, Daisy, a mama fox and her cubs and a hedgehog and a homemade owl. You can’t ask for anything better than that. Love your new owl!! Those items are certainly better where they are now than in the mud. You’re so right about those columns that were underneath the structure. My son and I wrote driving yesterday and I was pointing to him this building, but I figured that was made in 1900 -1920 or around that time, so I did a little look into the building and its history and found out it was built in 1899/01/01, cool hey?!! Loved watching your videos Si!! Thx!!😍🐬

So many amazing things in this video! Finds: the flint from 50 to 200 thousand years ago (!!!), the mystery pipe, all those coins, and the bell (I don't know why, but I truly love that one). The animals: ducklings, our friends Nelly and Daisy, fox mom and cubs, and a hedgehog (I actually found one in a park here in the middle of the USA; long story). SEAN! And that owl. I think you've really topped yourself there. The beak and eyebrows lead me to think it needs a fierce name, like Hilda ('warrior') or Gertrude ('adored warrior'). Thanks for brightening my rainy Sunday morning here in Wisconsin, Si!

Your upSIcles just keep getting better 👍 It's going to be hard to top the owl. The object at 31:50 looks like an inflation needle for a ball. The threaded end was probably aluminum and mostly corroded away, but the needle part would be stainless or plated brass. You can see the top air hole at 31:52 and also in the threaded end shortly after.

I remember watching a Time Team video recently where they said a Hoard is 11 coins or more. That may only be for historic archaeological purposes. You found a good stash though. Loving Nellie's new bell. He just wants be petted and sleep. 🐱 Love the Steampunk owl!
