I did a flip house a year ago, same thing on the foundation. I kept thinking I was a dentist when I was chipping away all the bad parts thanks to Mikes commentary😆. Anywho, it turned out very nicely.

Just to say, I am a big fan of the way you teach and go about things. So often when people are explaining how to do things like this it's loaded with so much grandiosity and mysticism, you end up feeling a little put off, like "don't have a go, this is serious stuff only for experts". Maybe for people who tend to charge in it helps to bring them down a notch but generally, especially with young or inexperienced people, I think it tends to discourage and leave them feeling de-skilled and incapable. With you on the other hand it's "no big deal, just get it done", no mincing around with things, just in about things with the hammer giving stuff a tap, which is far more encouraging I think. I'm no professional in anything, just a dabbler and handy guy generally but when I'm thinking about how to teach my son or other people something, you and your attitude keep coming to mind. So bravo and many thanks, it's a pleasure to watch and more helpful than you know. 👍

As alwaays, and excellent video to help other folks either understand the process or simply DIY the project... "Ain't no big deal!" On smaller wall and foundation repair projects similar to this video, in lieu of separate purchase and mixing of sand, cement and fibers, I've had excellent success with factory fibered stucco mixes from Quikrete (Base Coat Stucco) and LaHabra (Sanded Fastwall). Consideirng the time savings, it makes sense on smaller projects and provides a great uniform surface when floated.

I followed your instructions from an older video for a repair similar to this one. It looked great when I was done but everything popped off during the winter. I wonder if I did not have my mix right or if it was too cold when I was applying. No big deal, I will do it again and better this time. What kind of mix do I want for going over brick foundation on a porch in a very cold climate? More Portland? more mortar? Less sand? What makes it stick and stay put? Your an excellent teacher, I appreciate your videos and will watch this one over a couple times.
@MikeHaduck
@MikeHaduck Год назад
Hi Vnw, you can buy the mason mix type s pre mix with the sand in it and then I add some Portland, I paint it with portland to start, maybe you mixed the mix up, and added sand to a premix, I don't know, No worries you will win, Mike

Thanks Mike. Love the stuff Old Timer's used for bonding agent. Using that on block looks like it will be there forever. What about using fiberglass mesh over the bonding agent and then troweling on the plaster without the fiber in it? I'm trying to think of the best way to coat my ICF (EPS) foundation and finish it without using that peel and stick crap.
@MikeHaduck

Hi Dune, I have done that, you got to do a couple coats to hide it though, thanks Mike
@wcsd9577
@wcsd9577 Год назад
Sometimes the stucco guys I've worked alongside use these rolls of fiberglass fabric mesh when going over old stucco with lots of cracks, they trowel on their first coat of stucco and embed the mesh into it, then go over the top again with subsequent coats. Maybe a good median for those who want to minimize cracks without creating a big void behind.

The freezing water has cracked a few more into the basement. If you tap them they sound hollow and some slightly move. There is no bowing of the wall. Should I just patch and blueskin over or take the 5 or so blocks out and put new ones in while it's dug up? Also do you have any comments on concrete dye and videos on applying texturized parging? Do you use the same mix, maybe little less water? Looking for a nicer finish than the old stone wall combat hide the mistakes texture
