Based on promo art, the other two are Kaito and Chandra. I kind of hope they're both new but Torch of Defiance in standard forever would be kinda cool. Really bummed out about Vivien though. I have some good memories of paying like $20 for her because she eas the only "good" card in M19. But I can't imagine her being playable in 2025, let alone 2029
I'm bummed about Vivien as well, but for a different reason. My main format is Brawl on Arena, which is a singleton format, and I just opened Vivien Reid from a pack of M19 several days ago, which means it's a Mythic Rare from the upcoming set with very little value for me.
I mean the red walker has to be Chandra right? The only question is which one? I'd love being able to use Torch of Defiance in Standard again, though that might be a bit too strong considering we're gonna have it for 5 years.
I've been running Kayla's Command in my Botanical Brawler deck to close out games, and you're absolutely right that Ajani could potentially replace it.
Ajani's strength is definitely that it's unassuming. Do you really want to throw a dude at it instead of sending them at face? So it tends to stick around after dropping even if you can't immediately use the flouble strike. Not saying it will be a player in standard but I could see it finding a place.
I don't think the purpose of the reprints wasn't to bring powerful cards back in standard, but rather to show the essence of each color in each planeswalker. After all, these planeswalkers are going to be standard-legal for the next 5 years
I really really really really really really really really really really really really really hope they dont put any emphasis on, or try to appeal to commander in any way with this set. This NEEDS to be a set designed and meant for standard and standard only.
It won't be designed for Standard only, but it's because they're launching an introductory product and a Jumpstart product that will both be part of the set but not Standard legal. The premier play portion of the set seems very focused on Standard from the cards spoiled thus far, which is great.
A partvof me loves the liliana reprint, a part of me doesn't because i already have my playset, and would like the financial level to rise..... petty me.
6-mana planeswalkers tend to be control finishers, and as it happens we already have a deck that Lili can go into. Boros Control. Adding black to it let's us set up a board state with Urabrask's Forge, Caretaker's Talent, and Lili. The Forge token draws us a card on the way in and the way out. Fountainport making fish gets better with Lili because now they draw cards when they chump block. You probably want Fountainport in 2 colors though, not 3. And there's also the black Season card with one of its modes being the same as her passive and another the same as her -4. Could make the "foundation" of a mono black or Bx control deck.
Reprints are killing the game... No card. Even Commons should be reprinted but once every 5 years. Once a card has been printed more than 10 times it should never be printed again
