I came across your vlog for the first time today. What captured my attention are the colors of your pens. They're beautiful. I'm an artist- designer and write journals. I'm also a collector of art materials. I'm fond of colored writing pens with fine points because I write in block letters. Unfortunately Staedtler don't make technical pens anymore. I missed them. I buy my journals from Lett's London and Etsy's. I make doodles and drawings in it. I also paste mini-print pics from Walmart I personally print. I'm also a collector of key chains from all over the world because I love to travel. We have something in common. 😀Your collection of pens would be worth a fortune in the future. I'm really amazed. Super cool.🤩
Hi Elyse! This was great seeing your collection! I too love the Jinhao 82s .... you have an awesome collection of those!!!! It's so great that the nibs are usually good right out of the package ... I've also enjoyed putting a Goulet Broad nib, a Knox OBB one one and a Nemosine #5 Medium nib (from Birmingham Pens) one one! They are delightful. I have now gotten to try several Sailors even a 1911 with a gold nib but I don't get along with the Sailor nibs they are WAY to fine for me even with Pilot ink. My TWSBIs are almost all M nib and a few Broad plus 2 - 1.1 stubs ... I like the Diamond 580s for being able to swap out the nib units among them. But my favorite Diamond 580 is the Iris ... the grip material is different and I find it much more comfortable to hold! Plus beautiful. Anyway, I just wanted to take the time to comment -- your collection video was fun ... it's great to hear the collection journey and the developing nib and pen preferences ... reminds me a lot of my journey. Take care!!!!
Hi Chris!!! Ahhh I feel like a celebrity just commented on my video 🤩😍🤪💛 i feel like you have influenced my pen journey so much the last couple months. Because of you I am loving wetter and broader nibs!! I used to really love the jinhaos but now compared to the twsbis smoothness and wetness I never reach for the jinhaos anymore. Which is a shame and I am planning on getting some nibs to swap out so I can enjoy them again! I want to love sailors but they are way too fine for me too lol. Thank you for watching 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💙💙
Love all the Jinhao 82 pens! I did the same and bought a bunch of colours. Then I mixed and match the cap ends and barrel ends…even caps and grips. Very easy to do and so fun to try different colour combos! I even tried to replicate some Sailor combos. There are lots of videos of you’re not sure. Thank you for sharing your collection!
Mix and match the finials on your duplicates (or just the extra fines) so you can identify them. The top screws off and the bottom pops off with a little coaxing. It's so much fun!
That’s such a good idea!! I did do that with the coffee sparkle pen and the cream colored one to make a coffee pen but then I put it back lol! I love that you can do that with these, the possibilities are endless 😎
I have the Jinhao x750, I switched out my nib because I didn't like the one it came with. Goulet pens made a video on how to change it and it worked for me! You pull the feed and the nib out together, the nib doesn't come off by itself.
Omg! Finally some one I could relate to with fountain pens that makes ink darkened. I have observed this ink darkening problem from my pilot metropolitan. I have never had any ink darkening problems with my Jinhao 82 and on my TWSBI ecos. I think some pens makes ink oxidize that changes its original color.
Thank you!! I have so many I want to try lol. Opus 88, Franklin Christoph, pilot e95s and 823, and any of the many gorgeous hand turned pens out there! But I am also really enjoying what I have :) such a fun hobby 🌻
Oh interesting you mentioned Sailor pens. There was a point I really wanted a Sailor pen but never got one. It was after I got back from Italy and I really wanted a fountain pen so I could pretend was in the 1400's. I looked around in a lot of shops but never got one.
I don’t think you can go wrong with Jinhaos. I haven’t had one that’s bad and I wouldn’t care if it did. The price is so good. I just have loads of them and give them away to anybody who’s interested. I got the new 9019 and it’s just a bit to thick for my liking.
I love the Kakuno/Explorer/Metro too. I think you can tell the difference between them and a Jinhao. You need to save for the Pilot Custom 823. I think that’s my favourite. If you get one Pilot gold nib pen, get that one (although the 74, 912, E95S and Vanishing Point are all good).
A great collection. Amazing to see somebody so deep into the hobby and no Lamy Safaris! Do you not like the faceted grip? It is divisive. The faceted grip on the Kakuno is much more subtle.
Ok you’ve convinced me to really save for the 823! What’s your favorite nib size? I did have a lamy al star early on but I really did not like the nib. Whos to say if I would like it now because I may have not tried it with the best inks! But yeah I tend to not like pronounced angular grip sections either. I don’t really like platinum starter pens either lol. I think pilot is definitely my preference for that realm of pens!
This is dope! I recently fell back in love with fountain pens and I'm starting my collection and making a comicbook based on it. Keep up the good work! 🦾
I can try!! For the jinhaos you want to get a “shim”. Goulet pens sells them but I actually have just used a very thin piece of sturdy plastic. Then you want to slide it in between the tines and leave it there for 3 min or so. This will separate the tines and allow the ink to flow wetter. I have also just applied pressure to the tines /nib on a piece of paper to force them apart but this is not the best way and could result in breaking or cracking the section. But I have done it and it worked lol
It is called kaigelu 316A and I only have found it on AliExpress :) this colorway was called saffron from the seller I bought it from but I know different sellers name the colors different things
