Preaching to the choir here, HJ! I agree! I EDC some sort of FP every day to work. I write with them there, and I show them to my co-workers. Trying to spread the enthusiasm.
I shop for Shipt lol Publix & Kroger require you to sign for the order....u should hear the cashiers say....oh u got one of those fancy pens. . One lady even said oh that's one of those Declaration of Independence pens lol
I have only ever seen fountain pens in the wild a few times, and it’s the same group of people. In my job in the Navy, I frequently interface with British submarine officers who write almost exclusively with Lamy Safaris. Always refreshing to see “Senior Servicemen” because you never know what color Safari you might see.
I keep it simple. I don't subscribe to those who only show their hands, a desk and fountain pens. I need to see the person. Your channel is unique. Your enthusiasm is enchanting! Keep on doing.
A couple of years ago a work colleague pulls out a rather cool looking Mont Blanc. We had a quick conversation about it, and somehow I guessed that he bought it from Fountain Pen Hospital in NYC. Seeing that pen “in the wild” encouraged me to use a fountain pen at work more often. Later I saw your video about signature inks. I had a ball trying out various color other than black. Ignore the “haters”, keep on educating.
I agree with you completely, it's wonderful to see your channel taking pens away from the desk and using them in everyday life, if fountain pens were only to be used at a desk at home there wouldn't be much point in having them, after all pens no longer require an ink well so why not take them out and about 😊
I rely on you to show me all the different things I can do with my fountain pens! That includes taking them out in the wild! I learn about the great art galleries and libraries as well.
You can't please them all, HJ, and - from what I've learned - there are many who provide criticism in bad faith (that is, simply to draw attention to themselves rather than legitimately offer feedback). In these cases, though you are the topic of their criticism, their intended audience are those who will fall for their ragebait. I love the vibe you bring to your videos - it shows that the appreciation for fountain pens can be a part of a lifestyle rather than mere consumerism.
Tim, if all dogs liked to pee on the same tree the tree would die. 😂 your fountain pen channel is very important to this old Devil Dog. I have learned much. Sometimes I have found criticism to be beneficial when it contains a vibrant perspective. Sometimes it is just a dog that missed the tree and wet itself. 😊
Different content creators have very different styles. It's a means of expression that can be unique to the creator. The content creator puts in the time and gets to do what they want. I decided a long time ago that if I don't care for a particular content creator's style, personality, or message, it's my option not to watch. There is no need to insult people.
I agree complete. Creating any sort of content for public consumption is tough work. Also being online puts me and anyone else under constant examination. I try to bear it with grace. I try to use my critics for inspiration. Thanks for watching.
Fountain pens in libraries are such wonderful companions. If I may offer a suggestion of other “wild” places, coffee shops and grocery stores. I write my grocery lists with a carbon ink I found in China - nasty stuff, but waterproof. In Denver we have a 19th century house that’s been remodeled into a funky coffee house, a perfect place to use a fountain pen to take notes when reading or talking to a friend. A Lamy Safari is my day-to-day pen.
So far the only pen i like bringing out and about is my Jinhao 82. Black with gold trim, classic unassuming design but classy. And i wouldn't mind so much if someone swiped it 😂
Don't be sad over critics. The World is full of people who live their lives with and according to poor ideas and meanings. We can't take responsibility or burden for that. Better ideas are already offered for free. We can't do more.
I was in hospital getting my spleen scanned and noticed the doctor in the second part of my appointment was using a parker centennial. I said oh what a beautiful pen ! Can i sign with it. No ( as to be expected) i pulled out my 1930 Duofold and he said oh wow lets swap , im so sorry, i did not want my nib destroyed! No me neither! I have a kawco sport and a lamy for strangers. He said oh i have those at home. Good ide the classic sport or the cheaper lamy would be good and then people get to try out pens that are not too expensive to be destroyed. His pen was absolutely brilliant to sign my name with.
I guess they cannot realize that you are just being you. I have a different looking day, but I manage to carry a fountain pen with me anyway. No one expects your situation to be like mine, keep on doing the good work that we like, HJ. Nevermind the naysayers who can't articulate their position.
