We were fortunate enough to spend almost a week sailing a Fountaine Pajot Saona 47. We had an absolute blast onboard the boat. There were so many things we loved about the boat, and a couple of things I wish they would do slightly different.

Agree with you. Also if your mooring lines are shortish, because the forward cleats are a bit back than usual, the lines ride up and put pressure on the seat support. Needs a fair lead at the bow tip. We had no condensate on ours! Great boat!

I'd love to keep doing reviews like this. A bit of challenge and costly since I have to charter one to make a video like this one.

You pretty much nailed it Wiley! As a Saona owner, I can take no issue with any of your observations. We have lived aboard for over a year now and it is a very comfortable boat for a couple. She sails well, for the type of boat she is, and the addition of down wind sails makes it better. We agree that the plancha is basically worthless. We just put a cover over to keep the water out and set a Weber q2000 on top of it. As for the shower, they all soak the floor during a shower…..

Good afternoon Dan, was going to hammer Wiley because whilst I really love his content his 6 cons were a bit "1st World" issues, i.e. I would be more worried if the electrics look like they were installed badly or without the thought for subsequent maintenance than an iffy BBQ! Still great to hear from a owner and liveaboard that cons must be relatively inconsequential as you haven't raised anything. I'm looking at a newish FP as an option to buy 2nd hand in the next two years, albeit cannot stretch to a Saona, so hope your experience reads across to her smaller brethren. Fair winds.

@@catamarancentral 'Will do, hey Wiley I wanted to echo a comment from Terry Mclean and ask what sailing certifications will I require to own and sail an FP the size of an Elba 45 or Saona 47?

Awesome! Would be nice to show how you provision this. What ASA certs are needed/preferred? How do you accommodate Scuba divers into this? And if I have 7 how does that work?

Really nice idea for a vid, sometimes can think that all that is said about a boat is positive, but they most likely haven't spent much time on it so haven't found out the little minor niggles. It might be nice to end with a positive though, just to keep the manufacturers happy. Cheers.

I liked the F-P 40 we chartered but wouldn’t buy one. 1. Seems like helm and sight line were set up for a 5’ 7” person. I'm 6' and the bimini frame was always getting in the way of me seeing the sails. The overhead clear panel was useless, and yeah it should be a hard fiberglass cover. It sailed very slowly, but I hear F-P has fixed that on the Isla and Elba. I don't need a racing boat, but don't want a bathtub either. I have an issue with the circuit breakers being in the port engine bay. And then there's the jinky rudder linkage. Nice charter boat though.

@@catamarancentral still researching. Will probably charter a Lagoon 42 next winter, then move on to my Top 3 (Leopard 45, Balance 442, Seawind 1370). Wife really likes the L45 and its forward cockpit. Want to save that one for last so the others get a fair shake. I know how she is....😆
