I have the TeKton Lores with factory upgrade options I’ve used a couple amplifiers at hand a Accuphase E-280 integrate at 90 watts per channel and a 1990s Sugden A-41 preamplifier and A-41 amplifier . I very much preferred the Sugden it is certainly more moving and exciting over the Accuphase then a Pioneer SX-5590 came into my position completely by accident I purchased the belongings from a widow who told me her husband bought the Pioneer new while in England at the time , Long story short I had no inclination what so ever what this vintage monster of a receiver would sound like driving the TeKton Lores , ,,….Wow the Pioneer lit them up or better put woke them up oh my goodness . First noticed was the deep impactful bass , just incredible , over all sound quality before and after a cap refresh and refurbishment leaves both Accuphase integrate and Sugden amplifier behind .

Very very interesting, I would never bet on that outcome, especially against the Sugden. I can tell you my Kenwood did not do that for my ZU or Tekton, but it was all original.

@@2ChannelListening I would have never actively chosen a vintage receiver for use today however I was instantly attracted to the looks of this black face beauty my tech guy checked it over and said it’s very much worth refreshing he said you might like it sure enough he was right . The shock came when I hooked them up to my Lores I don’t know if it’s just the watts per channel the Lores reacted to or something else I’ve never heard my Lores sound like this . The Sugden is a beautiful match for the Lores at over 6K cheaper then Accuphase A-280 it’s now sold , the Sugden and Pioneer are staying. Finally a real shock came when playing video games through my dac into the Pioneer and Lores the deep sub bass is shocking , what the Lores can actually produce compared with the Sugden and Accuphase driving them it’s no contest, not even close . My young sons are gamers even they are thoroughly impressed with the deep bass wallops and slam however I was quick to advise them they have their own systems to play with .

high eff speakers means you can drive them with less power but otherwise I doubt is much of a factor in sound quality. the amp and front end matter. in the case of Lores I rec tubes.

Thanks Scott, no the room doesn't sound too good with the shotgun mic I started out with. I moved to a boom mic and starting next week I have invested in wireless mics. It all costs money...

Great comparison. I just found your channel and I'm enjoying watching your videos. I just ordered the Lore Reference speakers for my second system and Im really wanting to pair them with a good tube integrated....but Im new to tubes and have no idea where to start. Any recommendations? Thanks and keep up the great work!

I really do appreciate this, sometimes I'm a little embarrassed by these first videos... You will be amazed by how flexible the Tekton Lores are. I made a demo video with a 12 watt PSET amp that really rocked my socks off. On the used market, there are so many good choices, Prima Luna, Rogue, VTL and Black Ice Audio. Hybrid wise, Unison Research is a gem with the Primo. Congratulations and good luck in your hunt. Let me know what you end up with!

The Lore was designed to be used with low watt tube amps , but to each his own.
@2ChannelListening
@2ChannelListening 3 года назад
Yes, the Lore's and many other Tekton design's work extremely well with 5-10 tube watts. However, the drivers can handle high horsepower applications with bombastic aplomb. Most fun I had was hooking up my ZU Omen Def MKII's to a set of class A/B mono blocks with 200 watts, certifiably reproduced post concert ear ringing for hours. Thanks for contributing.

Great review, I love old Rush's first 3 albums. I'm thinking about the Pindragons on my M10. What do you think?
@2ChannelListening
@2ChannelListening 2 года назад
I guess depends on your space. Pendragons need room to breath, big A$$ speakers. No doubt the power is there to pump up the volume.

@@2ChannelListening I have 2 listening rooms that are side by side the kitchen/den is 12x24 and the dining room/living room is 12x24. Both rooms have the stereo at the far end and doors in the corners. So I don't toe in much and being in a wheelchair all the furniture is along the walls, this makes for good acustics. I really like the M10 but thinking about the Tektons Pindragons and maybe using the M10 as a Preamplifier and getting the Willington R8 KT88 as a combo. The other room has the GR research X-LS Encore on the Parasound and no room for the Pindragons. I haven't had towers since the 80s and I had some Difinitive Technology with my Nikamishi system. First I need to swap these around.

If the Tekton's are as good as everyone says I'm gonna be mad at myself for spending so much on the Harbeth's!
@2ChannelListening
@2ChannelListening 3 года назад
Don't buy the Tekton's and you don't have to find out Kevin :-) All joking aside, if you are not sensitive to ROI, then you have nothing to worry about. Harbeth's will always have their unique pedigree and strengths. The Tektons (and ZU) do a lot of damn good things for what they cost. Refinement is not their strong suite.

You have me concerned. I have an Onkyo AVR 100wpc. Class A/B. I'm hoping to pick up the ZU DW's on the next sale. I have an 5.1 system but also do a lot of 2 channel. My concern is the Onkyo just isn't going to pair well with the Zu's.I would think i would need something with appx. wpc. to match output . I have a zone 2 i can you for a sperate amp. on a budget what would you recommend? or if anyone else has a similar situation with the DW's? I thought I hit on the Parasound 2125v2 but heard they have a high noise floor at aren't a good match for high efficiency speakers.
@2ChannelListening
@2ChannelListening 3 года назад
Hello Gennaro, do not be too alarmed. First, my little Onkyo is only putting out 20 watts and they are all accounted for during this session, putting stress on the power supplies and really showing class B side sound for what it is. Higher power amps do not have to work as hard and therefore, with sensitive speakers, do not over stress the power bias side. Yes, a nice hybrid or tube integrated will match really well with the DW, even a Peachtree Deco can make them sing. I've been listening to my Unison Research Unico Primo these last few days and it works well with the ZU's.
@gtric1466
@gtric1466 3 года назад
@@2ChannelListening I do like how my Onkyo sounds compared to my previous Class D AVR's. it is more musical. I would think it's not to far off from the Peachtree. Hopefully i can score the DW's and see what happens. Appreciate your response.

Greetings Tejkaran, there are three that I can think of that you should be able to find/purchase for your price point, that are great budget performers. 1. Quicksilver Linestage (tube preamp w/remote) 2. Audio Experience A2 (tube preamp w/remote) 3. Peachtree Nova Pre (SS & Buffer stage with DAC) I have owned all three at one time and can say each will perform. I'm sure others in the community may have a favorite budget preamp they would like to add to the list. Have a Merry Christmas and thank you for watching.
