Four Jacks Cabin and the Dragon Rapide on Kinder Scout

Life is a journey and full of discoveries! Last week I found myself climbing Kinder to meet up with Dave, Gav, Simon and Steve for our group camp and I followed Crowden clough right up past the edge path onto the middle of Kinder Scout. It blew me away! Incredible serene and very different landscape, but also not a place that you would want to be in the wrong weather (and even with the right clothes, the wrong weather on Kinder will bite ya!)
Looking at the map afterwards, I noticed several rocky areas in the middle that might make good camping spots. I mentioned this in a whatsapp group that the camping group have and Kev Green (Who only camped the first night of the group camp, so I missed him), showed me a few pics of those areas and shared some top notch advice.
And so, this week saw me enjoying the beautiful sunny weather and following Grindsbrook up onto Kinder, and then into the centre of the Kinder Plateau.
It did not disappoint! You actually follow the old route that the Pennine Way took before it was moved down into the Edale Vale and up Jacob's ladder. A short way in (I said 1km in the video, but its nothing like as far...), I came across a stone ruin, and once again Kev quickly sent me some information about Four Jacks cabin. Ive included some pictures and information in the video that I found on the www.pictureshe... website.
The going is often pretty difficult and there is often no visible path so you walk across heather, peat and rocks that meanders across the plateau.
It was worth it though, the higher ground in the centre has a beauty all of its own.
In my research, I found reference to a couple of aircraft crash sites close by, but I wasnt able to find any sign (I didnt spend a lot of time looking though).
I will be back to have a longer look though!

It was very strange seeing it pop up on Kinder, it seems so out of place. I'm glad I wasn't expecting it though, more of a surprise. Thanks for watching.

Great weather for it. Liked the history about the Four Jacks cabin too. Looks like the purple heather is just about out to nearly its peak. Great drone footage. Thanks for sharing Phil.

Thanks Gav, yeah, for some reason I thought four jacks was round the back somewhere, but thinking about it, I remember Andy Beevers talking about it being on Grindsbrook. Weather has been spot on for my last four or five camps - that bound not to last!

Another great video Phil. Super informative with a wide range of subjects covered. From 8% beer to advanced aircraft navigation and a bit of camping thrown in

Great video Phil.👍 Near 4 Jacks is where I pitch when the weather is particularly bad up on Kinder. I usually camp just below the ruins of the old cabin, further downstream on a flat area where I think that the larger of the two buildings was situated. I've also been up the hill to visit one of the crash sites, although I'm not sure what type of aircraft it was, it must have been an old one as it still had visible crosswires on the wing struts. Cheers for the vid' mate, I enjoyed watching that.🙂

@@PhilWaud It's around 200 to 300 yards downstream from the ruins Phil, I imagine that you probably walked right past it, if you followed the river up to the ruins. I think that the last time that I was there was around 4 months ago, in the video titled; Up the Knoll & down the Nab.👍

Great video , I love your ale reviews, I always carry a few little paper slips with my RU-vid details on in my wallet , they come in handy , and work well! . the whole area between Glossop and Sheffield is like a Bermuda triangle of lost planes , a lot of them in my own experience are extremely difficult to find , due to most of the aircraft burning , and people taking souvenirs over the years sadly . A couple I have found , the planes remains could fit on a dinner plate , so like a needle in a haystack. Best wishes pal 🦇🦇🖤🖤
