TEDed is the heart & inspiration for progressive thought on YT.

You don't think there is an awesome level of cooperation going on, when everything arrives to supermarkets on time and everyone can order their bread, groceries, etc. And then you can walk down the street and get your shoes fixed as well? All because you helped society by doing your own day-job? That level of specialisation and coordination is extremely beautiful. I think people misunderstand markets.

I like his Idea and example about pharmaceutical companies ...

This is what i call a Ted Talk.

The first thing that comes to mind is how beautiful free competitive markets are, in relation to the tacit knowledge that is being applied by those birds. To me, the innovation of the market is without doubt the biggest and best catalyst for openness and decentralisation of power that human civilization has ever experienced.

A good speaker and a great subjetcs to talk about right now. I didn't know about Don Tapscott , I´m a new follower of him.

He doesn't realize it but he has just summed up the opinion of the Internet towards so many topics like sharing, cooperation and collaboration. i believe you describe his and our opinion as Common sense.

well when I said "some may not listen and this is a given" I was hoping readers would fit it with my racism/sexism notes since I used up all 500 characters. but yes I see your point and I never meant that the majority alone will atract the minority.I meant if we become the majority our voices will be heard."you cannot be perfect unless you are willing to change and if you listen to eachother you can reach this much faster."this is what this movement can achieve since everyone has equal athority.

I see the beauty you talk about, and I must agree. But I still miss something, it's all too individualistic, I think there's more need for sacrifice or generosity (maybe not the right words, I'm kind of tired)

Intellectual contests happen all the time though....what he did was absolutely not special. In universities there are always contests for scholarships and bursaries that require someone to write an essay for a prize. By your logic each writer should get something for their efforts but that really makes no sense. They didn't work for him at all, they did a project by choice in which they failed to give the best results. Seems very fair.

He ran a contest which profited him. He didn't hire the contestants, they chose to take part. I don't see anything wrong in that. 100% open, and everyone knew the outcome; not exactly anything I'd call a scheme. Would you give prize money for everyone in the olympics, because they tried?

I guess I'm to cynical for this. In my view this is the way things have always been, just at a faster cycle rate.

to the folks who think that what the gold miner did was wrong, how does it differ from The Olympics? You spend your own time, money, work, talent, and more often than not, it is all for naught...We need more "intellectual Olympics".....I'm not saying his idea was perfect, but it certainly wasn't so different...

not with that attitude,don't you have ANY motivation,I would rather enjoy the thought that I had done something to help when I die,rather than sit on a rocking chair while the world crumbles knowing every second I could be out there helping.people thought racism would never leave but it did,people thought sexism would never be banished but it WAS,people thought robots could never be built BUT THEY WERE. some may not listen and this is a given but when we become the majority the rest will follow.

I don't know if I like what the goldminer did, resembles too much of a pyramid scheme. He got many people to work for him for free, for the chance of winning some money. He should give to the ones that tried and failed as well, not just the "lucky" ones...
