It’s fun but a horrendous part to learn. Possibly the most depressing thing is to hear the recording and hear that fast part that you drilled is barely audible behind the clarinets… :/
As a budding young college student, instrumental music teacher, symphony performer, and adjudicator for over 30-years, I never get tired of hearing this masterpiece. I feel that the 1st Scottish Dance could have maybe been performed a little faster, but I can understand the conductor's position. However, overall very expressive. BRAVO!!! -- BS
Awesome. I was in the Alabama all state band in 1982 and heard this played by the Red band (I played in the white band). Extremely challenging for high school players.
Thee are lovely dances and quite well played here - the first, though, is very tongue-in-cheek (Arnold laughing up his sleeve) and should be less buttoned-up (and a little faster) than here, I think ; the hell-for-leather performances I've heard work better!
