The book was written by Isadore sharp, the Founder and current Chairman of the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. In it he gives readers a behind the scenes look into his life and how his values helped shape the Four Seasons brand into the international success it is today.
The book goes into great detail explaining how important customer service is to the company and how following the Golden Rule - treat others as you'd like to be treated.
I was most surprised to learn that the Four Seasons got it's start in Toronto. Prior to reading the book, I always thought the Four Seasons was an American or European chain of Hotels. In 1961, Isadore Sharp opened his very first hotel on Jarvis Street, in downtown Toronto - calling it: the Four Seasons Motor Hotel.
With the success of that, they expanded and brought many firsts to the hotel industry including those small shampoo bottles now found in every hotel. They were also the first hotel in North America to include a Spa in their building.
Another interesting fact detailed in the book is Isadore contribution to the Terry Fox Foundation and his support in it's growth.
The book is a very straightforward and easy read with tons of valuable lessons for anyone in the service industry!
