Kieran Hebden, known as Four Tet, shares insights into the making of ‘Daydream Repeat’, describing how he formulates melodic ideas and develops them with the help of renowned producer Fred Again.. . He highlights how a lack of formal music training complements Fred’s musical knowledge well but also allows for innovative ideas stemming from his trial-and-error process.

Watching interviews with Kieran always gives me instant motivation to produce. I could listen to him talk about music production forever. What a gift this podcast is.

As someone who has dabbled with computer music production I feel confident saying that Four Tet is a natural. He has something in his make up that just gets creating music this way. He makes it all sound effortless. The way he describes he works is exactly how I work. But I am rubbish at it.

@@jasonharrison5765 yeah when you've been producing at club level for 25+ years it should be fairly second nature to know what sounds good

Great video. Great detail in how he makes his tracks in Ableton... vst's used, shuffle/swing, randomisation %, etc. Plus love Four Tet! More like this, please!

So interesting how each render is slightly different because of the randomization, almost sounds like a fun easter egg. I wonder if he intentionally doesn't freeze the track

He might have started at a different tempo, and used varispeed to speed/pitch up or down? there's a cool max device for that, and I usually end up with weird tempo values
