Yes she changed her mind because she did her homework and saw it was a better decision for what Rory wanted not because her father tried to trick and lie to get Rory to go to Yale, he also lied to his guests by saying he did not try and force Rory I

I quite agree. No HS student is going to apply to just One college/university. Lorelei's behavior about this entire situation is beyond her. This is pettiness on a whole other level. Plus it's Not you who is applying for college, it's Rory. At some point that young lady has to make decisions for herself.

I know Lorelai didn't go to college herself, but her expecting Rory to have only applied to one of the most competitive colleges in the entire world without a backup is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. Of course Rory applied elsewhere. Of course Rory took advantages of her various legacy statuses (Yale from Richard, Princeton from Straub). Of course she considered other schools of similar reputation. No matter how good you feel your chances are, applying to one school sets you up for failure; it's too competitive at that level not to have backups. I get that L's also largely mad that Rory didn't share that she was doing this, but her behavior here is a key example of why Rory didn't tell her. Frankly, scenes like this remind me that she's certainly Emily's daughter, but more childish.

This is such a ridiculous way to respond. Anyone applying to colleges/universities is going to apply to more than one, regardless of circumstance or goals. It's just how it's done.

Damn this is probably Loralai's worst moment of all. It doesn't matter if Rory wanted to go to community college, it is her choice!!! She didn't put a dime toward it nor is she doing to work to get in anywhere. And in what world do you apply to only one ivy leage school? She lives her life through Rory and it is sad

@sophiarosep9

Though it may be silly, I do think that it’s only one of many examples of Lorelai desperate to ensure that Rory doesn’t follow the path her grandparents would choose for her. The path and the life that Lorelai fled herself. While they’re both ivy league schools, Lorelai feels more comfortable with the idea of Rory attending Harvard rather than Yale, the school with a long history of Gilmores attending.

To be honest, I think Lorelei was more upset over not knowing at all that Rory had applied to other colleges, then the fact that she apply to Yale as well as other colleges. Fixating on Yale because it would give her someone to blame, somewhere to direct that shock and frustration and it would be easier to latch onto an underlying issue, even if she’s the only one who perceives it. It would make sense on the psychological level, note how she mentions that for 17 years Rory had been thinking of going to Harvard, and then suddenly is considering Yale, after she met her grandparents. It’s highly likely that Lorelai feels upset because for 16 years she had been raising Rory on her own without the help of her parents, and now all of a sudden there’s something about her daughter she is unaware of which is a completely new concept to her. Remember that the reason she ran away from home when she was 16 herself, was because her parents, her mother most especially, were said to be controlling. She may believe they are doing to Rory as they had done to her when she was Rory‘s age.

Lorelai needed therapy. The fact that she's always milking that "my parents were controlling" cow while controlling every aspect of Rory's life is just absurd
@darkkey19
@darkkey19 2 месяца назад
The problem is that Rory was reluctant to tell her mother that she had applied elsewhere. She probably guessed that Lorelai would be upset if and when she found out, and was scared to let her know. Lorelai also made the assumption that her parents were being controlling when it came to Rory applying to schools, but Rory seemed to have made the decision all on her own. Rory even seemed offended that her mother didn't think her capable enough to figure out enough to apply to Yale on her own. I don't agree with what Richard did in the episode where he took her to the Yale campus, but the truth is that Rory would be a fool not to consider Yale as a backup alternative to Harvard.

@@Dani-so5mg of course it is, and I’m not saying that her reaction was a good one, just understandable. I would be shocked to find out something so important about my daughter’s Life in that way, and then understand that she was trying to keep it from me. And at the end of the day, Lorelai was going to find out regardless when she didn’t, in fact, get into Harvard. But that’s building an argument on the assumption that the average 16/17 year old has that much insight. The way that Richard and Emily treat Rory is also very different from the way they treated Lorelai when she was Rory’s age. We even see how, in the episode where Richard first takes Rory golfing with him, that Emily insists to him that they should build a relationship with her. That and other subtle scenes from following episodes suggest that Emily bears some kind of guilt for Lorelai running away, and doesn’t want to be pushy with Rory the way she was with her daughter.
@Mariamunro95
@Mariamunro95 2 месяца назад
@@darkkey19 absolutely. And it isn’t as though this is something that Lorelei can advise her daughter about, considering she’s never been to college. She knows how intelligent her daughter is, but doesn’t understand how selective these colleges are and how difficult it would be given the intense competition. I don’t think that Lorelei considered Rory in capable of making about decision, but given that this had never been previously discussed, and Rory had never mentioned even considering applying elsewhere even as a back up, it stands to reason that Lorelei would suspect her parents’ involvement. It turned out she was wrong, but to say that Rory came up with the idea all on her own is also false. It’s been some time since I’ve watch the episodes, but as I recall Richard had hinted something of the sort to Rory, though he did not suggest she should apply at Yale specifically. Only that she should have a back up just in case. I wouldn’t consider something like that meddling, but I can see how it would appear so from Lorelei’s perspective given the sudden change in Rory‘s mindset now that her grandparents are involved in her life.
