New to beekeeping but I’ve come to believe one common truth. You can talk to 100 beekeepers and get 100 different opinions and they all work. Lol it’s hard to know what to follow. Just like this video. I’ve yet to see a medium/deep/medium setup such as yours and yet it’s works. This is why I’m hooked.
I see what you’re saying but I think he’s more or less referring to the “that’s not how I do it” crowd. What’s so unique to beekeeping is just how vastly different everyone’s methods are. I’ve seen some comments on other channels where guys argue over something with which they both have success. Thats kind of like arguing about what shade of blue the sky is.
I think you’re right when I was young I want to start be keeping, but there was no one to help me who have bees they want to discourage you to do it until the RU-vid come up. They are more friendly people and then share their experience. I am beekeeper for last five years and I love it is challenging
In your intro video, you lever open your smoker due to carbon build-up. May i suggest you protect your bellows by placing a small block of wood across the top of the bellows, acting as the pressured fulcrum for the hive tool. Yes, one ive learned is respecpt not only the persons property but also the land , neighbors and landlord. 2) talk to them occasionally.... you have bees on their land or they may be neighbors. Use honey.... not vinegar.
#4 no they are not! .... In Poland we have laws about that written hundreds of years ago. You have 3 days to chase your swarm and you can trespass at someones land if you absolutly need to (you need to pay for any damages ofc). So if you cache swarm into swarm trap you need to wait 3 days to see if any beekeeper from near by comes to collect.
Wow, suprised how things seams to be over there. In Sweden you are supposed to reporter your appiary to a government run sektion that regulates how you are supposed to report disease etc. so that you can get a warning when and if there is an outbreak. You are not supposed to move bees over the county line and if you do you have to get a certificate of healt for the hive that you are moving. Old timers are Nice and welcoming and there are a saying, "there are as many ways to care and keep bees, that they are beekeepers". Strange that some people are so ignorant, when there is a major crisis with our pollinators.
I hear you. We do have similar regulations but they vary from state to state. I also agree with you that there is so much focus but not where it should be.
Hey ! Since you're opening up, would you care to enlight me ? :-) The hiver next to you seem to be built on supper-deep box-supper : what's the use of the bottom one ? You seem to be in a warmer climate than mine, so that might be it, but is it like a "brood supper"? That way you have "a box and a half" of it ? Thanks :-)
Yes of course! Great question. So I am actually trying something that I have just recently learned; so I am still experimenting and not necessarily recommending it to anyone yet. Basically what the bottom super is: - A box of 9 frames with drawn out comb but the frames are empty of any resources. -They are meant to resemble and function as the bottom, empty comb that a wild, established colony would have in their space. So in the spring the bees will actually fill it with pollen, becoming a pollen box. After that, they will use the pollen to make brood and then I will move it up top as a honey super for the flow. There's more to it but I need to see it through for a year of management before I can really convey more. Thank you for asking.
@@thehivedoctor13 thanks for the reply :-) Sounds a bit like the Warre style, except they don't move it up and let the queen and brood move down, so the top becomes fully honey to harvest :) I'll keep an eye on your experiments :)
Good tips. Bullies suck no matter where they show up. It's too bad there are people out there who are so uncomfortable in their own situation that they have to lash out at others who are just doing what makes them happy. Good for you speaking up about bullies. Thanks for sharing!
For the most part I agree about the swarms but I recently heard of an incident that I didn't agree with and granted I only heard one side of the story. I persons residential hive swarmed but the swarm landed in their own backyard. They called our local beekeeping club which they were a part of and asked for help in catching the swarm. The call went out to several different parties and the person that responded captured the swarm and took it home and kept it. Like I said, I don't know the entire story but in a case like this I would think it would be ethical to try to return the swarm to the person that lost it.
Oh man what a situation! I agree with you, the property owner was looking for help and the club member that caught it should have given it up to them, not taken it home.
I disagree for if the bee keeper took steps to keep the hive in place then no issue to start with. But in bee keeping no one owns bees. If you think different then tell the bees your opinion.
