DEET by far is the best all around repellent for applying to your body. Outside of that, I swear by my thermacells. I have one attached to my hip at all times out in the bush. Foraging, fishing, hiking, anything that I’m doing that is going to have me near bugs. I’ve heard of the cardboard trick, but haven’t tried it yet. We have a ton of egg cartons, but we need em to sell our eggs in!! Great video guys. We have a homemade ‘afterbite’ concoction that I should send you a sample of. It’s made out of the birch oil we make. Cheers!
@PinetreeLine

Thermacells are great and work too. You should definitely give the recycled cardboard trick a go. I understand you don’t want to give up any of those egg cartons with all those chicks there. Email me (in the description of every video) we would love to try the homemade after bite concoction, very cool! Thanks so much for watching Brother! Doug

I’ve never done the fogger thing, not sure I would to be honest. One method I do use is I keep a small pile of fresh green spruce bows handy and every so often throw one in the fire and create a good cloud. They hate that! The Timmies tray works better than one might think👍 Good one guys!

The best 'deet' is total absence from the wild outdoors during summer season, lol! Deet is a sticky dirty thing that's sweated out too. More open waters and windy campsites prevents using all those products, but sometimes it's a necessity when those sites aren't accessable. Liked the egg carton idea though...
@PinetreeLine

How's she goin' boys? Great video!!! Dealing with blacks flies and biting insects is probably the number one thing that keeps people out of the woods. Here in semi remote central Nova Scotia the black flies are vicious and then the mosquitoes arrive to carry on the attack followed closely by the horse flies. These products are great at keeping them at bay. I also like to use a cream called Great Outdoors Insect Repellent, made my Watkins I think. It contains 28.9% deet and I find it works great. They have a spray as well, but it only has 7.5% deet. Good for kids but I would rather the cream. Take care and thanks a lot for posting!!!

I hate using anything with deet because I'm a person who loves his gear. Any repellent with deet can delaminate fish rods, ruin sunglasses, destroy clothes and other gear. If you can't deal with the flies then my recommendation is wear a bug jacket and gloves. You might feel uncomfortable wearing this in the heat but not as uncomfortable as when you notice your expensive fishing rod has been damaged!

I'd prefer to use a flame thrower against those little vampire beasts, but "jungle juice" (100% DEET) is what I have - it works pretty well. If I know I'm going to be out among 'em in a day or so, I sometimes put my outdoor clothes into a big black trash bag, squirt in a healthy dose of jungle juice, close the bag up and let it sit overnight. Next day, when I need them, the clothes have all absorbed enough DEET to keep the bugs at bay. I like the smoking egg carton idea too! Cheers.

FOGGER?! How did we miss that one?! We tried just about everything in Alaska...so big you could RIDE the mosquitos!! Ruined our outside time, had to eat in the RV...not so bad on the trail, tho! Went in June, cuz they claimed that they weren’t so bad😬😉🙋‍♀️Lisa
@PinetreeLine
@PinetreeLine 5 лет назад
It’s unfortunate that insects can ruin a good time. These ways work for us and yes the fogger does make a difference in the area you are in. If they were that bad in June I can’t imagine the rest of the summer 😂. Thanks for watching Lisa!! Doug

I'm always looking for ways to see those nasty biters off! Take care, enjoy your camping trip and massacre some of those flies for us all! 🤣👊👊

I've always wondered what's a mosquitoes purpose in this world......I try not using sprays but use Thermo-cells when I'm in the woods...... Especially during bow season, the deer don't seem to mind the earth scent thermo-cell pad smell......

is there something in the egg carton cardboard or will any old cardboard really work for this?
@PinetreeLine

There’s something in recycled cardboard as opposed to regular cardboard. So always use recycled cardboard and it will work!! Doug

@PinetreeLine

Check with your veterinarian but there are mosquito repellents made for dogs. There are also all natural options like lemon eucalyptus oil, clove oil and more but like I said, always check with your veterinarian first. Doug

have you ever tried a product that contains permethrin and / or do you even know if that type is available in Canada, I am so sick and tired of putting bug suits on in 30C weather just to water the garden, plant so flowers etc. Unfortunately I live by a lake in central Ontario and insects of all kinds are a issue but hornets and mosquitos are by far the worst.
@PinetreeLine
@PinetreeLine 2 года назад
Permethrin treated clothing is legal in Canada as long as it’s approved by Health Canada. I’ve never tried it myself so I don’t know how well it would work. I don’t think there is any real way to win the battle with these pesky insects. I feel your pain. Appreciate you watching! Doug

How is getting extra time, from a higher percent of DEET. Not a benifit
@PinetreeLine
@PinetreeLine Год назад
Assuring our Canadian friends that 30% Deet is no different than 100% Deet in terms of effectiveness other than time. In Canada the legal maximum allowable amount of Deet in any product is 30% unlike our friends in the United States. That’s why that was said. Thank you for watching! Doug
