This rare 1994 Peugeot 405 2.0 Mi16 Le Mans has a 2.0 XU petrol engine, generating around 160 bhp. I am hoping to have a drive of this at some point on Sensible Secondhand Classics. From the collection of Arthur, who owns a good selection of cars, these 405s were incredibly popular back in the day, but are almost extinct in this country now. More from this extraordinary collection to come soon... Nothing untoward, then!

What a Gorgeous looking 405 in that colour Sir, would love to see you getting to drive that once it is all cleaned and fixed up.

Thank you, sir! I have said to Arthur that people would want to see me drive it if possible, so it may happen at some point in the future.

Some small notes. While the 405 came in the 80s, the facelifed 405 that came in 93 actually has a completely different interior that has nothing in common with the 80s version. Its a 90s design for sure. The reason for the Lemans existance was to reuse the interior and options configuration of the T16 that came a year before it, an even more rare car to find. By the looks the Lemans is a T16 with different rims and different color and an arm rest, while technically its a plain Mi16. The only thing the Lemans is missing visually is the oil pressuge gage.

A great car. Only 1000 made. I had the pleasure of owning one in 1998.

What a beauty. Can’t be many of these left. The high boot loading sills were the secret of Peugeot’s 80s and 90s success because it allowed a very rigid bodyshell and so excellent handling but also soft suspension for a supple ride.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting Год назад
Yes, the early 309s in particular did have a really high boot lip, didn't they? We will hopefully be able to have a go in a 405 soon, although it may be a different one.

The engine wasn't "the original" by the time, but what a gem. Friend of mine had one as his first car back in 2008 when there were some left and they cost next to nothing. Still reached 220 km/h at least in the speedo.

VF chassis numbers were made in Feance, SDB ones in Coventry. I think all Mi16s were French built but may be wrong.

Thank you, Carl! Will have to ask Arthur to have a look at the V5 for his chassis number.

Thanks for this video! A garage find indeed! Never heard of this version, although 405s were actually quite popular in New Zealand back in the day. The 405 won the New Zealand Car Magazine (Now called AUTOCar after merging with Auto News in 1996.) COTY in 1989! Do you know they also made a turbo 4WD version? It is very rare!
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting Год назад
Yes, they made a 4WD version of the 405, which you could actually buy over here. I know that the 504 and 505 were quite popular in Australia and New Zealand, but I didn't realise that the 405 was as well. These were excellent cars back in the day.

I still have a StarChip for this car. Actually I have a few because i copied it. I carefully desoldered the original ROM chip from the ECU and put a socket in. The new chip didnt make the car a rocket ship but it certainly got rid of the flat spots in the rev range and it felt nicer. It had to be run on 98 octane fuel though otherwise I could hear it pinking quite badly. I put the original chip back in before i moved on. It was thrn that i really felt the flat spots and limitations to the power delivery for emissions i imagine.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 11 месяцев назад
Thank you very much indeed for watching and commenting! There are so few of these around now, that feeling those flat spots due to the standard ECU is not something many people have experienced for twenty years or so, I am sure...

Yes, for some reason, the later upper specification 405s with this three spoke steering wheel did not have a driver's airbag, whereas a lot of the lower trim ones did.

I had one of these as a company car in 1995. I cant remember the reg...but that reg feels familiar. That very car could have been mine. It had a factory keypad security systrm in the centre console. Does this one have that?
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting Год назад
I don't think it has a keypad (unlike some of the slightly later Peugeots and Citroens I have driven), but it most certainly was a great car! Maybe it was removed later? Thank you ever so much indeed for watching.
@prose1733

It should indeed have it. One can even see the led window on the lid on the center stack behind the hand brake lever. It's part of the engine management system so it cant just be removed.
