I don't consider Fourplay or Bali Run "jazz". It is a lighter, less abstract variety of ensemble or combo music, featuring chord signatures common to some jazz compositions, but the arrangements are lyrical and linear ....they also have a very distinct and sonically pleasing melody line. Jazz generally doesn't. Jazz is much harder to embrace and for the ear to enjoy.... I hate the moniker "smooth jazz" but it to some degree better captures what's going on musically with artists like Fourplay.

Lee Ritenour was the original guitarist with Fourplay but, there have two who carried the torch exceptionally well since...Larry Carlton and ( God rest his soul ) Chick Loeb!
