We are in the middle of Y4. It sounds like we are doing a lot of similar things. You mentioned Latin but not what you use. I recommend Getting Started with Latin. We spend probably 8 minutes a day on it and are learning a lot. We do the exercises orally. If you have a Y3 too you could start them together next year just for simplicity sake. I enjoyed your calm and serene video.
I like the narration variation schedule. I’m the same way with systems in place and planning the schedule out so it’s done and I do better to stitch to it vs. coming up with how I want him to narrate or giving ideas on the fly. Do you have a flip through of how their book of centuries is set up?
Hi! This was helpful as I’m planning Y4! You mentioned you pulled together narration prompts from Know and Tell. I ordered my copy yesterday! Do you mind sharing the prompts you put together?
Would love to learn more about your book of centuries and how that works. We’ve tried one with Sonlight but let it drop in the early years. Starting AO year 4 this fall.
how do you do grammar? we have done very little so far, next year i wanted to add spelling and a little grammar with my 4th grader. what would you recommend?
Oh, I cheated this year and started with Khan Academy Online for grammar introduction. I also had my daughter read Grammarland just to introduce her to the vocabulary. Then we had a co-op group that used Cottage Press Fable and Song - which was lovely, but a bit much really for what we needed. For spelling I just used Spelling Wisdom by Simply Charlotte Mason and I really love it. In addition, as a fun activity I bought her MadLibs. She does it on her own but makes learning about the parts of speech fun - The Khan Academy teaching helped get her a head start since I didn't have the margin to teach her directly. I hope this is helpful!
