Someone please explain why it's always come down to blame mass shooting on being due to mental illness when these killing are done mainly by a white man?. I'm fairly certain that there are a good number of black men also but are not known for mass school shooting,yet the only time blacks make the head lines would be if they are being shot by mainly a white police officer or person or knocking on a white person door asking or to seek help or directions, etc, etc. Also please explain jus how guns does a household need and why haven't the government placed a limit or kept count how many guns a single individual has purchased and why? We need easy mental evaluation for new gun owners, psycho awareness training for police investigations on suspicious people throughout their cities, Metal Detectors is all schools...Yes metal detectors WILL stop it. There's already schools with Metal Detectors, automatic locks and mandatory i.d's for employees, concrete walls for natural disasters and barbed wire fencing. It does help.. I understand both sides of the argument. Neither person is wrong because at this point it's simply theory. The debate seems to be mental health vs. gun ownership. If a person has a clean record and no history of mental health diagnosis then he'd be able to obtain a gun regardless whether the law stays as is and you can own a rifle or whether rifle ownership is outlawed and you can only own a pistol. At this point the real argument is that walking into a school with a pistol instead of a rifle likely will result in less casualties. And as far as mental health goes there are plenty of people that suffer from mental illness but haven't been diagnosed so the only practical thing is that you require an individual to be mentally evaluated before he/she is approved for a firearm. However, that only minimizes the chances in this case the suspect stole the rifle and the pistol from his father. The only way to effectively prevent school shootings is to step up campus security.
The POS who committed this last mass shooting in Santa Fe Texas, had no record of mental illness. he had Nazi symbols on his jacket, and he was wearing a shirt that said (Born To Kill) on the front of it. you can't blame everything on "mental illness" some of these f**ks are just pure evil. at some point we're going to have to be honest with ourselves.

But when we break it down revoking ownership of rifles doesn't prevent a mass shooting it may only minimize the number of casualties. 2nd amendment ensures ownership of a firearm. The type of firearm is something that may be amended. However, on the mental health issue there should be a menta health evaluation imposed so that a gun owner doesn't meet the criteria for mental illness.
