I laughed out loud so many times during this podcast, it's nuts. The show portrays him as a natural genius but when you put his actions on paper like you guys did, it is just totally batshit, lol! Pretty sure you know this by now, but the first movie was after season 5, not season 4. Tsk, and you call yourselves fans. :P The theory that Mulder is insane and on speed is brand new to me and I love it. Gonna go check out to see if you guys have covered my favorite episodes yet.

This is a bit late, but on the question of "why don't they fire him", the implication is that his ties to Congress give him a lot of leeway, such as through Senator Matheson and presumably other contacts. I see it almost like how in the Wire, McNulty circumvents the chain of command by talking to people (in this case a judge) above them in the hierarchy in order to force a desirable outcome. It seems like a realistic thing. I also think the implication is that most of the government isn't infiltrated by the Syndicate, and all it takes is one mistake for the FBI or CIA or some faction to be aware of their actions. They couldn't just off Fox (someone with a fairly large following) or the Senator, it would draw undue attention. Like even when the aliens infiltrated the US government with all the undetectable alien-hybrid super soldiers, they were only able to sneak one onto Mulder's murder court case in season 9.

"X-Files and TNG" insert THIS IS LITERALLY ME meme Two of the greatest shows of all time and they ruled my childhood in the 90's. Funniest thing is, at first when I heard 6:59 you talking about writing X-Files fanfiction I was like "lol what a nerd" and a second later my synapses lightened up, my brain farted, I experienced a flashback as livid as the memories of watching the show with my family... I DID WRITE X-FILES FANFICTION AS A KID, TOO! I totally forgot about it, blocked it out of my memory for 30 years, but I definitely did that. Now I feel like one of these abductees from the show that blanked the aliens out from their minds and only remembered them when something triggered their memory... My fanfic was a sequel to "Darkness Falls" because I loved that episode so much. And of course the plot happened in my hometown, because as a kid there's nothing more exciting than bringing your beloved TV characters right there where you lived. I also wrote TNG fanfics. Well, more like "TNG-era" fanfic, because my stories were about another crew, consisting of my friends from school. I don't need to say that I was the captain, right..? Well, I totally was the captain. What can I say, I was 12. I was also writing an X-Files spoof for my school paper published bi-monthly for like 3 years. Me and my buddy from my class were the "agents" and we investigated a whole bunch of "cases", each related to some weird stuff happening in our school. Like: the mystery of the model skeleton from biology class being responsible for stealing student's lunches. Or: the mystery of a slipper bag (each student was required to change their schoes in our school) that someone threw on the roof of the gym, that ended up infested with mutated bugs from outer space. Lots of stuff inspired by "Graveyard School" books by Tom B. Stone... Oh the memories.

You missed one massive thing in devising this. No one, (and I am including you,) is intelligent enough to fully understand and appreciate Fox Mulder's genius, so your analysis of him is automatically redundant. I thank you.

@@mitchellhorton9382You are wrong. It was there to show that they weren't going to jump into bed together. If your explanation was accurate, there would have been lots of similar scenes.

@@mitchellhorton9382You are wrong. Get your facts ts straight. It was there to show that they weren't going to jump into bed together. If your explanation was accurate, there would have been lots of similar scenes. Plus Chris Carter insisted on Gillian Anderson when the network wanted Pamela Anderson.
