i love that when the fiddle plays his solo in the beginning you can see the appreciation the banjo player has for his skill. love it.

Rob McCoury won banjo player of the year. Probably for his craftsmanship, taste and consistent quality. One thing about bluegrass is that rock solid craftsmanship, which isn't always the flashy stuff, is appreciated and often times coveted. Russ happens to be right on the money %100 percent of the time, sitting in the pocket of the groove, night after night, day after day. Yes, there are thousands of pickers out there at this level. But very few are on the road, in the studio, going through the grueling schedule of a professional musician. Russ does it with grace......he would get my vote for banjo picker of the year.
@spelingmaster
@spelingmaster 6 лет назад
Lol. Dear lord, the things you learn on the RU-vid comment board. Russ Carson is an "average banjo player". What f**king planet do you live on where this guy is average? You ought to go back and re-read your comment, and see if it strikes you as idiotic. If it doesn't, well, you're an idiot. I agree there are players that are on another level in terms of creativity (Noam, comes to mind first), but Russ delivers a classic, driving sound that has a lot of appeal and is deep in talent. If you can't hear that,, it may be because your head is buried in your a**.
