7:20 I would only take the crankbait off after the fish swims away. I've had takes by keeping the lure moving in the margins quite a few times by doing a figure of 8 type thing like musky people. Sometimes speeding up a lure can get you a take. Its not just stopping it dead that works. If a perch follows in a Jig, letting it drop to the floor is great, but totally dependent on the depth it followed in at. If you drop it to the bottom after it's followed your lure right under the surface moving quickly then it will not likely take it as confidently as if you just keep it moving or keep it at the same depth by keeping your rod tip up and winding down. Although admittedly, when Perch are that aggressive and fired up, they'll usually hit your lure as soon as they can reach it even if it does drop to the bottom.
