I have always loved this song from when I was a kid in the 70s. I actually used to think that Rick James had a hand in the production because it gave Rick James vibes.
The guy in the suit was not in the band, he was just a guest in the video. Ish the guy playing mouth/guitar, wrote and recorded the song with the bass player and drummer Joe Galdo. Joe Galdo was president of Island Records in the 90s. They definitely didn’t sing the backgrounds. That was a female group. I forgot the name of the girl group.
I remember when I first heard Get Off, when it came out in '78, I was 4 years old. I remember when I first saw them on the Midnight Special and I was shocked beyond belief. And I remember them having female backup singers too.
I grow up in the 70’s when Foxy came out in 1978. We all thought they were a girl group until we seen them on ABS with Dick Clark. Totally surprised. Their all related from Cuba who left and made their home in Miami…🙀
A lot of great local bands in Miami, during the disco era. Foxy was top band back then, great musicians…Ish Ledesma guitar and vocals, Ritchie Puente guitar and vocals, Arnold P. on bass and vocals, Charlie Murciano keyboards and vocals and Joe Galdo on drums who was all over Gloria Estephan’s first record with the Miami Sound Machine. Joe G. Wrote and produced 3/4 songs on that record. George McCrae and the Newborn Band ( check out the Diamond Touch Album ) great funk / Disco. KC and the Sunshine Band, And a few other groups all came out of that scene in the late 70’s
Review Hot Number by Foxy! Get Off was my favorite song...I thought it was a black group until recently. I still love the song it doesn't matter as the memories and why I liked the song will never change. I'm an 80's gal...Miss Hawaii USA '86 so this was my vibe. Aloha 🌺!
Used to play this song over and over when I was really young, not sure if I cought the meaning at that time. I do also remember the video . What a fun song though.
The first time we heard foxy in 78. We all thought they were a girl group.!. But to our surprise it was a guy group from Cuba instead.! They had the #1 song on the radio and Was the number one song in all the night clubs.!. 😊😇👍🏽😊
Ohhh Mannn…. You just reacted to one of my FAVORITE disco jams!!!!!! My God,I am SO blessed to grow up when I did (late 70’s to mid 80’s) Where I did (Boogie Down Bronx and Brooklyn); this song will always make me get up and dance until the day I DIE ❤❤❤
I LOVE the visuals! I always thought they were a Black funk band. But they’re Cuban-so that explains the flavor. A little afrolatin situation! Love it! And they DELIVER in that performance! I can’t get enough of Carlo, Ish brings it too-so talented-dancer, musician, singer, everything!🔥
I know I was there in the 70’s Born in Miami and went to Miami Springs High School during that time…My uncle Dennis Sierra, played guitar with the Newborn band and later did two European tours with KC. We all knew the members of Foxy. Lot of competition between all those bands back then.
Stumbled on to this as I was going down memory lane (Bootsy, Funkadelic) and definitely remember as a kid I felt ripped off buying the album because that was the only good song on it, but loved the jam
Back in the 70's, when music didn't "belong" to anyone, you had whites doing black music and blacks doing white music and Hispanics doing everybody's music, It was a beautiful time. Nobody can say that this isn't "funk".
I was 13 when this song came out it was in every party n especially on Soul Train do you know they all were Latin . On the far left on the Guitar was Tito Puente Son from Blyn. This was the Jam , when music was music . ❤❤❤❤❤❤and I am 58 years young and the dance for it was the Bump 💯💯💯💯
you are to be congratulated. I would never imagine that any channel would react to this song. I danced a lot, I don't remember exactly if it was the end of the 70's or the beginning of the 80's. Congratulations once again. Hello from Brasil.
The guy on the left, in the brown dress shirt is famed Puerto Rican bandleader Tito Puentes' son Richie. Not the one in the tank top. The rest are all Cuban. Most of them could not even speak English well.
You guys will know “Madamoiselle” by them. Such a great track! It was re-issued in the 80s. I remember dancing to it a lot in London clubs (mid 1980s).
WAP is moral rot, and doesn’t hold a candle to this groove; I feel bad for kids today; we knew how to dance, get down and have fun, while keeping our integrity and self respect ❤🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽
Loved when this came on. The Dance Floor Was Packed & Jumpin’. This Video ruined it for me. Thought the Singers were a Black Dude & Black Woman. Boy was I Wrong 😮😂😂
Of course! Wildflower sang the back vocals but they Foxy did not include them in the video, I don’t know why? It would have been just complete! They were AMAZING!!!! Listen Hot Number, Wildflower sings the back vocals really well and makes the band complete!
This is wild and crazy the whole atmosphere one of you looks like Eddie Murphy, one of you looks like Dr. Boyce, and the other looks like Tariq Nasheed. The guy which I will call Tariq Nasheed and sounds like him damn he sounds like Tariq Nasheed yall fukin with us. Foxy Hot number is also a party song hype like Get off.
Casey Kasem told a great story about this song. He said Foxy's leader named Ish was driving past a school one day and heard small children singing this song's hook and it bothered him so much that he broke up the band.
This was my SHitttt growing up in W Philadelphia. But i thought .there were some black girls in the group.. How the two old heads in this podcast not now this ???
THERE IS ANOTHER SONG BY FOXY. THEY WERE ON THE MERV GRIFFIN SHOW. THE SONG SOUNDED FAMILIAR. NOT AS BIG AS "GET OFF." THE MAN IN THE "WIFE BEATER TEE" IS WEARING COLORFUL SPANDEX. PINK, PURPLE, PERHAPS ORANGE? YOU SHOULD SEE THEIR HOLIDAY VIDEO WITH MOCK SOLID GOLD DANCERS IN THE BACKGROUND. HILARIOUS! SOMEONE MENTIONED THEY ARE LATIN? THEIR OTHER SONG THAT IS FAMILIAR IS CALLED "HOT NUMBER." I REMEMBER IT. IT'S REALLY GOOD. YOU'LL LIKE IT. I SAW A FEW LITTLE VIDEOS. THEY WERE PRETTY "HOT NUMBER (S)" MAKING MORE APPEARANCES THAN I WAS AWARE. I WAS OUT OF THE COUNTRY AND MISSED THEIR RISE. HOWEVER, THEY ARE LATIN. CUBAN, SPANISH? AND I CAN'T REMEMBER WHERE ELSE THE LEAD SINGER'S NAME IS ISHMAEL? I DON'T SPEAK SPANISH, A LITTLE PORTUGUES AND A TINY BIT OF BRAZILIAN PORTUGESE AND A TINY BIT OF BIT OF JAPANESE, BUT NO SPANISH. THE MEMBER WITH THE BIGGEST HAIR IS THE SON OF TITO PUENTES HE SAID. A WELL KNOWN ARTIST. THE LEAD VOCALIST WAS STILL PERFORMING AS PERHAPS THE OTHERS? I CAN'T REMEMBER THEIR NAMES. PROS. I DO REMEBER THEIR SONGS. CHART TOPPING. LISTEN TO "HOT NUMBER." WILL NOT DISAPPOINT. ❤
Okay, I wish I could unsee this video😂I loved this song growing up. I honestly expected a funk group with ladies singing background too. Never knew what they looked like. Now everytime I heard it I'm gonna think about how UNCOOL they looked🤣🤣
I've never seen or heard of this song or band before. It seemed a bit dishonest not to have the female vocalists in the clip given that they contributed so much. The guy singing wearing the white shirt/grey pants & blue tie looked like a Thunderbirds puppet. The song was catchy and fun though.
First of all the guy with the tank top is Tito Puente son lots of talent in his bloodline second you idiots forget people back then danced and they danced all the time anytime every single song that's just the way it was none of this uptight crap today or single dancing or whatever people really really danced back then so show a little respect they were very very good !!
Yeah, ya'll are definitely hearing women voices in the background, probably singers hired for the recording session of this track and not part of the band. Likely why the different promo videos for this song show the band members lip syncing parts that might be a bit too "high register" than one would expect, ha! Great song, nevertheless ✌
